Contrary to popular belief, companies can create innovative solutions that address environmental challenges for society while delivering immediate economic benefits for themselves — it doesn’t have to be either or. Nondisruptive creation, an approach to innovation that is comfortably familiar without being fully familiar, could open up a profitable path for industries while you address environmental concerns, allowing you to achieve positive-sum outcomes for your company, your industry, and society without compromising either or. But it soon evolved into a journey of personal transformation; discipline, good habits, and a newfound respect for our environment became a part of my daily life. A local entrepreneur shared, "Since we adapted cleaner production methods, we've seen a significant reduction in waste and a boost in our efficiency." To me, that is what innovation is all about. Not about the number of patents registered Not the size of the R&D team Not the budget allocated for research Not the media attention gained But the real impact it creates. When you're acknowledged for your contributions to sustainability – that is true innovation. What does innovation mean to you? #GreenInnovation #Sustainability

Books can only inspire, building skills can make the difference Impro.AI
MUST READ: Rethinking Innovation: Alternative Approaches for People and Planet! This is the best book I have read on innovation I. Premise A central premise for this book is that innovation is not just about creating value from ideas. It is about creating futures, in sometimes radical, disruptive, and transformative ways II. Questions If our point of departure is that innovation has the power to create futures, then this in turn raises some important questions that we need to think about: 1. What kind of futures do we want innovation to create? 2. Who gets to write the future, and who does not? 3. What kinds of methods, approaches and theories allow us to engage with, analyse, and shape innovation as a process of ‘futures in the making'? 4. How can we collectively take responsibility for the future and what does that mean for how we undertake innovation in the present? 5. Does this mean we need to rethink how we innovate now? III. Insights 1. Innovation is a future creating activity—it is about much more than the development of new products and processes 2. Society pins considerable hope on innovation to address today's pressing challenges, which range from climate change to social inequality and biodiversity loss, to name just a few. However, innovation in its mainstream form can only take us so far and is complicit in some of these very challenges that we face today 3. Innovation for twenty-first century challenges has to be radical and institutionally transformative—it has to intervene in and reconfigure established norms, ways of relating, organising and producing 4. Supporting innovation in its more transformative manifestation demands reconfiguring the infrastructural and governance systems and expectations that surround innovation as a concept and a practice 5. It is an exciting time in innovation studies—it is possible to change the terms of reference for innovation and this book is inspired by and is for those future leaders willing to make that imaginative leap IV. The book This is the best book I’ve read on innovation, essential for practitioners in public, private, academic sectors, and the general public. It introduces concepts like responsible, inclusive, reverse, social, and sustainable innovation, exploring how they can be transformative or merely appear so. The book’s insights into different innovation types, with critical perspectives, are invaluable. Structured chapters with learning objectives, key points, questions, and activities enhance understanding. At €60, it’s the best possible investment for anyone interested in innovation! https://lnkd.in/dfR3ueqC #innovation #sustainability #transformation #circularity #futures #reverseinnovation #socialinnovation #responsibleinnovation #degrowth #postgrowth #systems #systemschange Springer Nature Group Palgrave Macmillan University of Exeter Business School

'Innovation is degenerative. It exploits and erodes the sources of our prosperity and flourishing on the promise that success will repay the losses, a promise that is seldom if ever kept. So, what if our processes for innovation were regenerative, in the sense that they nourish and strengthen individuals, teams, organisations, communities and environment continuously and unconditionally, regardless of the outcome? What would this regenerative innovation process look like?' #Innovation #RegenerativeFutures #RegenerativeInnovation #InnovationManagement

💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀❓ That's one of the many questions Ayming put in the 2024 International Innovation Barometer to 1,053 R&D and innovation directors, CEOs, CFOs and entrepreneurs in 17 countries across Europe, the USA and Asia. Here's what emerged: 🔵 38% of those surveyed said the most common obstacle is short-term focus and the 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀, which makes innovation planning even more difficult. 🔵 The second biggest obstacle to innovation is the 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁. Curiously, among the least popular innovation priorities are attracting talent and fostering a culture of creativity, given the increasing complexity of R&D. 🔵 Smaller companies are much more likely to suffer from a lack of available skills and talent (37%) or a clear innovation strategy (34%) than larger companies, which face 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆, particularly in the construction sector. The International Innovation Barometer 2024 also analyzes 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and the most important challenges facing forward-looking companies. Download the full report for all the data 👇
