one step closer to make peatlands real main characters in the mitigation of climate change.
The worlds first #peatland World Heritage Site has been formally designated by UNESCO! Scotland’s Flow Country has secured the accolade of being Scotland’s first World Heritage Site inscribed for its natural peat bog features. World Heritage Site status is predicted to help realise a wide range of environmental, social, cultural and economic benefits for the north of Scotland including the creation of skills and job opportunities in landscape restoration and conservation, growth in sustainable tourism and hospitality, and the potential of added value to new green finance models to attract global investment to the area. The IUCN UK Peatland Programme congratulates everyone who has been involved in this monumental effort over the last few years to get one of the best examples of blanket bog in the world the status it deserves. We look forward to joining in the celebrations in due course! You can read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/es97W7c4
