This week we attended the Bisnow London Real Estate Leadership event, and it was great to hear some optimistic insights for the industry. Key takeaways: -British Land research shows the need for 5 million sq ft of space in the City over the next 4 years to meet current demand. - Yield compression isn’t expected much this year but will be closely watched. - In the secondary market, success lies in active asset management, repositioning assets, and recycling non-core assets. - More direct capital is needed, although alternatives like GILTs are drawing attention. - Companies are looking for top-tier office spaces to bring people back, which is exactly what we offer at Workspace Group! - AI is set to drive innovation, especially in sourcing development and investment opportunities. - The industry needs to engage more with the government to foster growth – progress has been made with planning, but there's still more work to do. “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.” When I was at H&E, there was one thing they always said: “We’ll never sell out.” I can still visualize leadership repeatedly saying this at our regional sales meetings. It was something employees believed, something we thought defined the company. But as of last week, H&E sold their rental operations to United Rentals. I can’t say I’m surprised. In fact, I saw this coming last year and told several of my friends and customers it was only a matter of time. Business decisions often have a way of contradicting the promises made along the way. This isn’t about being right—it’s about understanding the industry and recognizing that no matter what’s said, every company has its price. At the end of the day, strategy and market pressures usually win out over words. For me, this move is a reminder to always stay ahead, trust your instincts, and focus on building relationships and expertise that will last—because companies, leadership, and strategies will always evolve. To the friends I have at H&E, it will get better. There are more opportunities than you realize out there. You’ve got a choice of who you share your talents with. Silicon Valley probably has had 5 paradigms of leadership style that prevailed for the region at different times in its history that became the region’s contribution to leadership practice in addition to technological innovation. While reading the book The Nvidia Way: Jensen Huang and the Making of a Tech Giant, I was reminiscing on our past history and wondering why there are paradigm-shifts in management styles, other than the fact that a company with that style became extraordinarily successful for a period of time. Here is my take on the first one. The OG was the HP Way! The signature contributions to the management style was Managing By Wandering About (MBWA) practiced by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. The other was an extraordinary focus on technical excellence and innovation. Management by Wandering Around is a management style where executives spend time walking around the workplaces, interacting with employees at all levels instead of only through their managers. By engaging with employees directly, executives can: Gain insights on challenges and opportunities, and employee morale firsthand.   Foster stronger connections with employees, improve communication and trust. Spot issues and challenges early on and take steps to resolve them.   Spark creative thinking and generate new ideas.
