Leading Lily Arkwright through a period of rapid growth has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. This year alone, we’ve expanded into new markets with the opening of showrooms in Birmingham, Glasgow and Bristol, and each new location has presented unique opportunities, challenges, and lessons. One of the key takeaways for me has been the importance of balance - between maintaining the core values that define our brand and adapting to the specific needs of new markets. Whether it’s understanding the local customer base, tailoring our approach to different cities, or ensuring that our ethical and sustainable practices remain at the heart of what we do, there’s always a delicate balance to strike. At the same time, leadership during expansion means empowering the team to take ownership of their roles. Watching our showroom managers step up, adapt, and take the lead in creating exceptional customer experiences has been incredibly fulfilling. Their commitment has been a key factor in making this expansion a success, and I’ve learned that giving people the space to grow in their roles is essential when scaling a business. Growth also comes with its challenges - new logistics, evolving processes, and increased demand. But through it all, I’ve learned that staying grounded in our vision while remaining flexible in our approach is what ultimately drives success. As we continue to grow, I’m excited for the journey ahead and proud of how far we’ve come. Goal setting and alignment is such a critical piece of well-functioning teams. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day weeds and lining up & knocking down the inevitable weekly challenges, but it's critical to set big goals and highlight the successes (and correct the misses) we've made. To that end, we just had our CHARLESGATE Property Management team "town hall" meeting. Our service area team leaders reviewed Q1 & Q2 Objectives & Key Results, strategic priorities, challenges, and opportunities across the business - with the goal of creating a fantastic customer experience. I'm thrilled with the pace of progress that our leaders highlighted with the full team. Under the leadership of Todd Mikelonis and the leadership team we're scaling up rapidly and have made remarkable progress across all of our service offerings. We're correcting things that need fixing, and focusing on what's most important. 2024 is the "Year of the Customer" for us, and we're focused deeply on creating an amazing resident experience and client experience. It's paying off already. #PropertyManagement may be an age-old business, but we don't see it that way. I was sharing with another young lady how I had been working in Multifamily for many years, finally finding a place where my talents were recognized and celebrated. At that moment, my RM left my old company and joined Mission Rock Residential, LLC She reached out to see if I’d like to join her team, even though the new position seemed lateral. I was conflicted because I had finally found my niche at my previous job. What helped me decide was seeing Marcella Eppsteiner, a brown woman, on MRR’s website. In my 22 years at that time, I had never seen a woman of color in such a high-level position on any Multifamily website. That representation gave me peace and confidence about transitioning to my new company. It highlighted the importance of seeing oneself reflected in leadership roles, which can be a powerful motivator and affirmation. Representation matters deeply. When organizations fail to include diverse leaders at the Cee Suite level, it sends a damaging message that only certain groups belong in leadership, and we wonder why some teams at those same companies fail to perform or view themselves as those with the potential to lead. This practice needs to be addressed and strongly condemned. Though it was a difficult decision, I’m grateful for making the move. Both Marcella and I have since been promoted. The Construction Outlook 2025 MBE and Owner panels provided comprehensive discussions on the current and future construction landscape in Central Florida and beyond. Jason's Panel was a who's who in the diversity construction industry: Vernice Atkins-Bradley Juan Quiroga Ernest DuBose II The panel was emceed by Carla Toles McKinney of Disney Supplier Diversity. These diversity champions in the construction industry provided so much knowledge and information to those in attendance. Thank you to the NAMC of Central Florida and Albu for the invitation. Thank you to Michele Daugherty and ABC of Central Florida for co-sponsoring along with Disney and BBIF Florida. I'm here to amplify the work these diversity and business champions do on a daily basis in order to elevate all of us.
