On 25 September 2024, the World Health Organization published new guidance to improve the design, conduct and oversight of clinical trials across the world. The guidance aims to support what it calls strong ‘research and development ecosystems’ that create well designed and well implemented clinical trials. ⭐️Interested in the political economy of primary health care reforms? ⭐️ Our WHO fantastic team led by Faraz Khalid has just released five country case studies (Kazakhstan, Kenya, New Zealand, Thailand and Uruguay) that examine the political economy factors related to decisions relating to primary care services. This is part of a global initiative to explore how countries have achieved success in scaling up PHC by sharing policy lessons from different countries. Recommended reading 👇🏻

We are very proud to be working together with USAID GHSC-PSM on this impactful project introducing #eLMIS Medexis in all 1100 health facilities in Burundi. The overarching goal of the project is to enhance the #visibility of logistics #data and information at different levels of the #supplychain to ensure a consistent #availability of pharmaceutical products in health facilities across Burundi. In the current phase, a total of 2272 users will be trained in the use of Medexis. Health workers will have access to #onlinelearning platform i+academy for #training materials and resources on #supplychainmanagement. This comprehensive training and support will enhance supply chain management, reduce #expiration, #overstock, and #stockout rates, and ultimately improve #healthcare outcomes for the population of Burundi. 🤝 Exciting News from the ACHAP Biennial Conference in Abuja, Nigeria! 🌍   The ACHAP (Africa Christian Health Associations Platform) biennial conference has commenced today in Abuja, Nigeria, and we at IDA Foundation are thrilled to be actively participating! As ACHAP shared their poignant vision in the opening ceremony - "We dream of an Africa where healthcare is accessible to all, and people don’t have to travel outside their communities to access healthcare", we are reminded of the collective mission we're committed to - ensuring health equity for all.   At this gathering, IDA is represented by our three team members Eghosasere Ramnaps, Jules LEBEAU and Nwaebiem Nwadinobi, ready to engage in thought-provoking discussions and collaborative sessions. Later today, we are privileged to contribute to one of the breakout panels, titled "Leaving no one behind: Addressing silent health epidemics." In this session, we will share insights into our ongoing efforts to enhance access to Non-Communicable Diseases (#NCDs) and discuss the imperative of forging strategic #partnerships to tackle emerging health challenges.   We support the view of World Health Organization in the opening ceremony, that healthcare transcends mere ‘sick care’; it necessitates a holistic, multi-sectoral approach aimed at fostering the well-being of communities worldwide. The role of strategic partnerships in global health cannot be overstated. By fostering #collaborations across diverse sectors, we can harness collective expertise and resources to drive sustainable health outcomes and advance the health agenda. Very happy to have been a part of the New Zealand case study led by Don Matheson and colleagues with documenting Primary Health Care reforms spanning two decades. In 2001, New Zealand introduced health strategies to address inequities for the Māori population, leading to the creation of district health boards and primary health organisations. It examines the political economy dynamics that shaped these primary health care (PHC) reforms from 2000 to 2020. Political leadership and commitment to health equity were crucial for the reforms' early success. While organisational changes and new institutions were key to implementation, legislative and electoral reforms were essential for institutionalising Māori rights. However, the reforms faced challenges stemming from colonisation, racism, and the global financial crisis. New Zealand's experience underscores the importance of coordinated political economy factors, sustained political commitment, and effective community engagement in achieving successful PHC-oriented reforms. This serves valuable lessons for other countries, emphasising the need to address historical and structural inequities and make lasting changes in power and resource distribution for sustainable PHC reforms. It was a privilege to participate in the 10th edition of the Future of Health Conference organized by Nigeria Health Watch yesterday. The theme: From Evidence to Action: Building Resilience at the Climate-Health Nexus. One of the speakers present, whose contributions were very effective on climate change and health, was Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate the Coordinating Minister of Health. The conference brought together delegates, speakers, and partners from different organizations working to alleviate health sector challenges and pushing for policies to guarantee quality health services at a reasonable cost for all Nigerians. Key insights were shared by leaders from Partner Organizations including Pathfinders, MSD THE WORLD BANK, eHealth Africa, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. and other Health organizations stressing the pressing need for the coming together of different sectors in the health working of climate change to enhance public health. The discussions highlighted the complexities of these issues and stimulated innovative strategies to tackle them to realize sustainable healthcare systems. I'm very optimistic that we will move beyond just discussing evidence to actively finding new ways to practice medicine, allowing health systems to evolve as the impacts of climate change continue to be felt. #ClimateHealthNexusNG #FutureofHealth #NigeriaHealthWatch

📢 Wemos and N'weti are calling for more collaboration among global actors and Mozambique's government to mobilize additional resources for public health. 📃 Our latest policy brief, ‘The Future of Health in Mozambique’, emphasizes how strengthened partnerships with key global actors - including The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and global health initiatives like The Global Financing Facility (GFF) - can transform Mozambique’s health system, making it more resilient and inclusive for all. 🇲🇿 Mozambique’s health system is at a critical moment. With rising rates of infectious diseases, chronic malnutrition, and poverty, limited resources are under strain, leaving many without adequate access to health. Our brief outlines strategic, collaborative actions to support Mozambique in increasing its budget for health, such as: ➡️ Supporting progressive tax reforms that reduce burdens on consumers. ➡️ Earmarking tax specifically for health to ensure consistent funding. ➡️ Revising austerity measures to protect essential social spending. ➡️ Enhancing donor coordination that aligns health programmes with Mozambique’s national health priorities. 🔗Read the full policy brief here: https://lnkd.in/da6mzxnf
