The British Medical Journal published today the first major study looking into trends in cancer incidence and mortality in middle-aged adults in the UK. The study by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) found that fewer middle-aged people are dying from cancer in the UK than at any point over the past 25 years. The study showed that overall, mortality rates had dropped by 37% in men and by 33% in women. 📢 I am happy to share our new #publication led by Prof Katriina Whitaker and Dr Anna Cox We present examples of best practices and guidance for using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) to reduce inequities in cancer care and cancer outcomes. Key takeaways: 🚨 Innovations may further exacerbate inequities in cancer care and outcomes if these have not considered and mitigated factors driving inequities before their development and throughout the research and project life cycles. 📑 CFIR plays a crucial role in helping researchers maximise the effectiveness of innovations. It provides a robust framework to anticipate and address barriers to developing, implementing, and evaluating innovations in cancer care. Meet Tara Anderson. She is one of four NIPANC supported PhD research students we are partnering with in collaboration with Queen's University Belfast. Their work helps us get a better understanding of #PancreaticCancer; how it impacts individuals and families in NI and provides insight into how we can continuously improve services and support for those impacted. The title of Tara’s PhD 'Exploring the Supportive Care Needs of Families Affected by Pancreatic Cancer: A Mixed-Methods Study' puts quality of life at the heart of Tara’s work, and she is asking for your support. She explained: “I am conducting a survey to gather information about the needs of those supporting someone with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis as well as the psychological impact that a loved one’s diagnosis may have. There could not be a better time to launch it than during NIPANC’s November #TimeMatters campaign during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month #PCAM.” This survey is open to everyone, aged 18+, who has a family member currently living with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. This study has received ethical approval from the Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Life Sciences, QUB (Ref: MHLS 24_137) If you would like to participate, please follow this link to access the survey: https://lnkd.in/ehKgg5G2 Find out more about her important work here: https://lnkd.in/eiNmVaZn

🌍 On World Cancer Day, Cancer Research UK's analysis reveals a recent slowdown in survival progress, contrasting with 50 years of significant advancements. This article emphasises the importance of preventive measures, such as addressing tobacco and obesity, enhancing cancer services, and prioritising early diagnosis. It also highlights the importance of sustained funding for awareness, commitment to research, and political prioritisation, which are vital for continued progress. #WorldCancerDay #CancerResearch #PublicHealth 🎗️🔬

For over 3 years, International Cancer Institute, hosts virtual multidisciplinary TumorBoards (#MDT), where a diverse group of healthcare practitioners from across the world join in twice a week (#Mondays 4PM-5PM EAT, #Thursdays 4pm-5pm EAT) via a zoom link to discuss treatment planning for cancer patients presented during these meetings. We also conduct #CMEs routinely (In addition to inviting cases from attendees) in some of these slots to ensure optimal standards of care are maintained across the patients journey #screening #diagnosis #treatment #palliativecare #clinicaltrials #survivorship #qualityoflife #Qualityofcare We are proud to introduce an additional component of #chitecasefiles. With over 10,000 cancer patients treated over the years, I will be routinely presenting some cases from the past and leading the discussion on management of the patients in the current changed landscape. New research led by UCL reveals that a new treatment regime for cervical cancer can reduce the risk of death by 40%, offering hope to thousands of women and people with a cervix. However, this advancement alone won’t ensure equal benefits for all. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) highlights that cervical cancer mortality is higher in deprived areas, where screening uptake is also lower, particularly among some ethnic minority groups. Alongside developing effective treatments, prioritising equitable prevention is critical to ensure no one is left behind. Read our #evidence brief on what works in reducing inequalities in cervical cancer screening here: https://lnkd.in/dmnZ8sMz Read the new paper published in The Lancet here: https://lnkd.in/dZ9Mq9Fq #CervicalCancer #HealthEquity #CancerResearch #HealthcareAccess #womenshealth
