European Project Manager @EuroQuity Bpifrance

From Lab to Startup … the formula for success! Compelling, right? This is the topic of a roundtable held during the inaugural Europe Deeptech Meetup. This event, organized by EuroQuity - Bpifrance and Les Deeptech 🚀 teams, brought together 50 early-stage deeptech startups, from preseed to Series A, from sustainable, health, industry and digital sectors to pitch and meet Europe's finest VCs.   The outcome? 200 intros, a jury of 75+ investors, 226 applications and more than 220 investors from all over Europe. And it was only the first edition. It was a great opportunity for me to work alongside Céline Debled and Maxence Jamet, who came to represent Agoranov and Entrepreneur First, to help me highlight the work of our french ecosystem in promoting entrepreneurship among PhDs and researchers. Key highlights included: 📈 Democratizing deeptech: The Deeptech plan, launched in 2019, has significantly contributed in democratizing entrepreneurship amidst researchers' ranks. Since 2018, the proportion of PhD founders at Entrepreneur First has tripled. These researchers are passionate about a tech and are committed to apply it to an impactful project. 🤝🏻 Building stronger teams: founders should uplift each other's skills, with CEOs enhancing the technical prowess of CTOs and help vulgarizing the technology when selling to a customer.  🔔 Problem first, solution second: a common mistake often made by founders is thinking applications first. Entrepreneur First and Agoranov emphasize thinking problem first and understanding their clients’ pain points before developing potential applications. 🚀 Strategic Operations: companies should ideate and operate in a geography where time to market favors the operations, like health companies rapidly targeting the US, as regulation and market access are less restrictive than in Europe. 💪🏼 Sovereignty: it does not depend on the geographical market rather than where the IP, the team and the research are based.   Massive thanks to Céline and Maxence for sharing their valuable insights.    To access the list of 50 selected companies and get an intro with the founders, please reach out to me at marc.ranchon@ext.bpifrance.fr.
