The third round of the season of the FIM Superbike World Championship will start this weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, in The Netherlands. Pirelli confirms the options already deployed in 2023 for both the WorldSSP and WorldSBK classes, with the addition for the latter of the development rear SCX with C0900 specification, already seen in action in Barcelona both in testing and in the race. At the "Cathedral of Speed", as the Assen circuit is informally called, the young riders of the Northern Talent Cup will also take to the track, for which Pirelli is the sole supplier from this year as for all the other championships of the Road to MotoGP™ project. Tyre allocation: in addition to the aforementioned SCX in C0900 specification, WorldSBK riders will have access to the SC1 and SC2 standard solutions at the front and SCX and SC0 at the rear, in addition to the SCQ exclusively intended for use in Superpole and Superpole Race. In case of rain, which is often a real possibility at Assen at this time of year, there will be intermediate and SCR1 wet tyres on both the front and rear. In WorldSSP riders will be able to choose between SC1 and SC2 for the front and SCX and SC0 for the rear, with the SCR1 as the wet option. Asphalt and temperatures: at this time of year, the area where the historic Assen circuit is located is often affected by rain and it can still be quite cold, with asphalt temperatures that can be as low as 4°C, as happened in 2022. Despite these temperatures, usually the not particularly abrasive asphalt can allow teams and riders to find set ups suitable for softer solutions. · Turn 5: the Assen track is feared by the riders due to the first left corner, which comes after four consecutive right corners and is located in a part of the circuit often subject to cold winds, which makes the management of the front tyre temperature and caution when entering of vital importance. Pirelli for the Northern Talent Cup: the bikes of the young riders - aged between 14 and 17 - competing in the Northern Talent Cup will be equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slick tyres in SC2 compound, 100/70 R17 at the front and 120/70 R17 at the rear. In case of rain, SCR1 compound is available in same sizes for the front and 125/70 R17 at the rear.

Putting the rest of the MotoGP puzzle together. In what has been undoubtedly the most manic rider market in perhaps even the history of MotoGP, there are still a handful of spots left to fill. These seats are namely at Trackhouse Aprilia, LCR Honda and Pramac (who make the switch to Yamaha). Though it is yet to be officially, announced, Fermin Aledguir is a Gresini rider in all but confirmation. While Miguel Oliveira seems to be the odds-on bet for the lead seat at Pramac, there isn’t a clear indicator of who will partner the Portuguese rider. It was speculated that either Alonso Lopez or Sergio Garcia could make the step up from Moto2. Both riders have had strong Moto2 campaigns thus far. There have been flashes of brilliance from Lopez, whilst Garcia has been the dark horse of Moto2 this year, the Spaniard currently a top the Moto2 standings. However, it has been reported by Motorsport.com’s Dutch site that the title sponsor of Pramac, Prima, wants neither Lopez nor Garcia on their bikes next season. This is reportedly due to the company wanting an Italian rider to fill at least one of the vacant spots. Tony Arbolino’s name has been thrown into the ring as a potential candidate for stepping onto the satellite Yamaha next year. Despite a difficult season, that has yielded the best of a 6th thus far, the Italian may have to find an increase in form to get his name on the dotted line. Another struggling rider in potential contention for the second Pramac seat is Jack Miller. The four-time race winner has had a bruising second season in orange, so much so that he was dropped in favour of rookie Acosta before the midway point of the year. Though Miller had previously stated that he hadn’t had a single offer, it was rumoured that Ducati had offered him Alvaro Bautista’s World Superbike seat. With still no confirmation of plans for next year from Bautista, a return to red could be an option for the Australian. Remy Gardner has also been linked to moving into the Pramac outfit, in what would be a return to the GP paddock. The Australian has been looking like the strongest Yamaha rider in World Superbikes this season, stepping onto the podium back in Assen. Gardner has made two GP appearances already this season, filling in for Alex Rins in Germany before taking over an injured Cal Crutchlow’s spot at the British GP. So, with at least some experience of the M1, Gardner could be a solid option for a second rider. It’s not just Pramac that has a spot that needs filling, as Trackhouse Aprilia are still searching for a rider to partner Raul Fernandez next season. After a pretty stellar start to his campaign, the smart money would have been on American Joe Roberts, seeing that it is an American-owned team...... https://lnkd.in/emetN2r8

The 2024 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix Sprint Race After four years, Formula 1 returned to China for the Formula 1 Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix 2024. Every year, from 2004 up to 2019, there has been a Chinese Grand Prix. Unfortunately, from 2020 to 2023, the event was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that the Chinese Grand Prix is back! The event hosted the first sprint race of the year. The other Grands Prix that will host sprint races are Miami, Austria, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar. The format for this year’s sprint activities is different from last year’s. This year, on Friday, April 19, the only practice session of the weekend and the Sprint Qualifying were held. On Saturday, April 20, the sprint and the traditional qualifying were held, while the race will be held on Sunday, April 21. Unlike other Grands Prix weekends, at a Sprint weekend, teams are allocated 12 sets of tyres instead of the usual 13. The Sprint is a short race that lasts 30 minutes and covers 100 km, which is usually a third of the usual race distance. The driver who sets the fastest lap isn’t awarded any points; however, the top eight finishers are awarded points. The winner of the sprint receives 8 points, the second driver receives 7 points, and so on until the eighth driver who receives 1 point. At the start of the race, Norris defended himself against Hamilton until they both approached Turn 2, where he ran wide and lost the lead. Hamilton took the lead of the race, while Norris dropped to seventh place on the grid. By lap 4, the other Mercedes driver, Russell, was up to ninth place after passing Bottas and Magnussen. By the fifth lap, both Red Bull cars had issues of their own. Verstappen had earlier in the race asked about his battery on the radio, while Perez was given instructions related to engine mapping. Luckily for them, two laps later, those issues were sorted out, and on lap 8, Verstappen moved into second place after passing Alonso. At this point in time, the race leader, Hamilton, was complaining about his car’s performance through the low-speed corners. On lap 9, Hamilton ran wide through the hairpin, which gave Verstappen the DRS advantage over him. On the following lap, on the inside into Turn 9, Verstappen overtook Hamilton, and by lap 11, he was over 2 seconds ahead. By lap 13, Verstappen was ahead of Hamilton by 4 seconds. By lap 16, Verstappen was eight seconds ahead of Hamilton. On the following lap, Alonso and Sainz made contact with each other, which left Alonso with a front tyre puncture. Alonso pitted and retired on lap 18. By the final lap, Verstappen was leading by 11.5 seconds! He went on to win the sprint race ahead of Hamilton and Perez who finished in third place! World Superbikes – Will Jonathan Rea Grab a Super 7th? The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series got underway (eventually) with the Daytona 500 on Monday. F1 2024 bursts into life next week. However, this weekend it’s the 2-wheel stars who take centre stage as the World Superbikes season launches at the famous Phillip Island Circuit in Australia. Unlike MotoGP, the bikes ridden in the WorldSBK competition are souped-up road-going models which can used by the general public. So, whereas MotoGP can be compared to Formula 1, i.e purpose build machines, WorldSBK in contrast is similar to sports car racing. #WorldSBK #WorldSuperbikes #JonathanRea #AlvaroBautista #MotoGP #Eurosport #PhillipIsland #Yahama #Ducati #Kawasaki #FIM https://lnkd.in/eX9euCqe

🏁 Singapore GP: Lando vs. Daniel – Fastest Lap Comparison 🏁 During last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, something surprising happened—Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap at 1:34.486 (he was running in P18 before making a pit stop), compared to Lando Norris (the race winner) who had a fastest lap of 1:34.925. Some friends asked me: how is that even possible? First of all, even with a significant gap in positions, in Formula 1, the difference in lap times or distance is often just a matter of seconds, tenths, or even thousandths. There are several factors at play, but let’s keep it simple: Strategy: Each driver and team has their own plan during the race. As the race goes on, the car gets lighter due to fuel consumption, which naturally makes it faster. Track Conditions: As more rubber is laid down, the track grip improves, helping later laps be faster. Tyres: This was a key factor. Daniel switched to soft tyres late in the race, which perform better than hard tyres, while Lando was on older hard tyres, which are slower but last longer. Now, let's dive into the data using the Data World Platform, and try to uncover these differences through real data analysis.🧑💻 Grip Advantage: Daniel’s soft tyres provided better grip, allowing him to carry higher minimum speeds through corners. Braking & Acceleration: Ricciardo was up to 40m ahead in braking zones and had superior traction exiting corners. Throttle Consistency: Daniel had smoother acceleration, while Lando struggled with traction, evident in the throttle/RPM data. Coasting: Lando's lap shows moments of coasting—where he's neither on the throttle nor brake—especially into certain corners, which impacts his overall lap time. Also, Ricciardo snatched the fastest lap point, which previously belonged to Lando, currently second in the championship. Could this single point make a difference at the end of the season? Check out the data comparison below, generated using Data World, a platform I developed. It’s free and available for you to analyse all sessions and events. RACE SERIES NEWS: New #rallying category added to #FIAMotorsportGames 2024 Rallying will be a major highlight at the #FIA Motorsport Games 2024 in #Valencia, Spain, on October 23-27. This edition will introduce a new All-Stars category, featuring top rally drivers, alongside the returning #Rally2, #Rally4 and Historic Rally categories. "Rallying can be a little different depending on the country," explained Carlos Sainz, the double FIA World Rally Champion and four-time #Dakar Rally winner. "Tarmac, for example, is not the most usual surface on continents like #Africa and #SouthAmerica. The FIA Motorsport Games was created to concentrate, during a single weekend, all the motorsport activity worldwide. For this, sporting regulations should encourage every country to be present, so I welcome this increase of categories, especially in rallying.” FIA road sport director Andrew Wheatley added, “Female and male competitors from around the globe, representing their national ASN in modern and historic cars, will be joined by the world's top rally drivers to compete in Spain, showcasing the depth, talent and incredible diversity within the rallying community. We are proud to build on the success of the 2022 edition with new features and expanded categories, which reflect our commitment to promoting dynamic competition in rallying." Formula1 Vs MotoGP. A Team Oriented versus a Star Oriented championship. In search of the formula for success. Formula 1 and MotoGP represent the best of motorsport on 2 and 4 wheels. With 24 and 21 race weekends respectively, the two championships are a traveling promotional platform that over the course of 10 months touch some of the world’s most important markets. There are no other leagues comparable in geographical impact and frequency of events. Only the Olympics and World Cup enjoy the same prestige but the frequency is four years while the Champions Cup is a European phenomenon. What are the main differences between the two championships? The show. The two championships are profoundly different, offering a show at the antipodes in terms of the nature of the vehicles, the length of the races, and the simplicity (or complication in the case of F1) of the racing. The 45 minutes duration of MotoGP is ideal for keeping the audience’s attention high. The number and quality of overtakes ensure high tension at each event. The introduction of the sprint race on Saturday further enhanced these features by making MotoGP, if possible, even more engaging by producing content-rich weekends making the most of a potentially less interesting day. But there is more. And what is going to happen in the coming years…Aerodynamics in MotoGP and Tire Changes in Formula 1, are we really sure we need them? 👇 https://lnkd.in/ef4qUgsd #MotoGP #Formula1 #professionals
