Switzerland took the spotlight at this year’s #MDF24! 🇨🇭✨ One of our favorite highlights was an insightful panel featuring Tom Quinn (CEO & Founder of NEON) and Christian Jungen (Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival), where they explored the latest trends in film finance and distribution. This panel was part of the Switzerland, Country of Honour 2024 programming, proudly organized by by SWISS FILMS and in collaboration with SRG SSR and the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. As we begin this new year, I find myself reflecting on a deeply personal project that has reached its conclusion: the festival run of my documentary about my beloved grandmother, Emmy Hoffmann, has come to an end. This film, which holds immense personal significance, also resonates on a broader level in today's world. At a time when rising fascism threatens to repeat the mistakes of the past, her story — and the questions it raises about apathy, memory, and responsibility — feels more relevant than ever. My grandmother never got to see the film, but it’s humbling to know her words and memory reached audiences in Berlin, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Vienna, Nazareth, Stockholm, and Brussels. I can only imagine how thrilled she would have been to know her quiet life became a part of something meaningful. Her testimony, as someone who identified as “apolitical,” reminds us of a critical question: can we afford to remain indifferent in times of political turmoil? 90 years after the horrors of the Nazi regime, we know where nationalism and division lead. The warnings of history remain clear, as Erich Kästner so powerfully wrote: "We must not wait until the fight for freedom is called treason. We must not wait until the snowball has turned into an avalanche. The rolling snowball must be crushed. No one can stop the avalanche. It will only stop when it has buried everything underneath it." This film is a tribute to my grandmother and a call to action for all of us. Let’s remember, reflect, and act — for history cannot afford to be forgotten. The documentary is now available for the public on Vimeo. Just click this link – and let me know your thoughts! At the beginning of 2025 a chapter is closing. The festival run of our short documentary "Amos Apfelbaum: Zeugnis eines unpolitischen Lebens" (My Grandma's apple tree: testimony of an apolitical life) comes to an end. We had been invited to HISTORY International Film Festival Austria, Sweden Film Awards, Los Angeles Lift-Off Festival, Berlin Lift-Off Festival, Amsterdam Lift-Off Festival, Near Nazareth Festival, and we won the Brussels Capital Film Festival! Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. Thank you to Mattis Rinsche for this beautiful soundtrack, thanks to #ChristopherDeutsch for the support - and thank you to Daan Wesselman for the supervision! And in memoriam to Emmy Hoffmann. The documentary is now publicly available on Vimeo: https://lnkd.in/e6pBgTFZ

Art reflects its society, and film has long been a powerful tool for mirroring the experiences, struggles, and aspirations of its people. Through the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), South African filmmakers are given the resources and support they need to explore the rich complexities of the country’s past, present, and future. Film, as an art form, serves as a mirror to society, offering audiences an opportunity to understand themselves and others. By empowering filmmakers to engage with pressing social issues, the NFVF enables the creation of films that spark conversation, provoke critical thinking, and drive social change. #safta #NFVF #Greatlakesmedia

I want to share a powerful video that truly emphasizes the significant impact a cure for Type 1 Diabetes could have. 🌟 This video serves as a poignant reminder of the daily struggles faced by individuals living with T1D, along with the additional mental and physical burdens they manage, whether for themselves or their loved ones. It captures how every aspect of life—school, family, health—demands ongoing thought, attention, and action. This reality often goes unnoticed, but it is one that truly deserves our empathy and support. As we raise awareness for World Diabetes Day, let’s keep in mind the real, day-to-day effects of living with Type 1 Diabetes. Together, let’s advocate for increased research, greater support, and a deeper understanding for those impacted. #worlddiabetesday #t1d #diabetesawareness #diabetesuk #breakthrought1d #dream
