𝚂𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎𝚜, 𝚝𝚘𝚘 𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑 𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚘𝚘 𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑. Sure, you've always been told that you need to have accomplishments on your resume, but there's a limit. Too many can feel made up, leaving recruiters and hiring managers to wonder if you're either a Wunderkind or a liar—neither of which is very good. On your resume, share a mix of what you did (in a paragraph, about 3–5 lines) followed by bulleted accomplishments. Use as a guide one accomplishment per year, not to exceed five accomplishments per position. 𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 use ChatGPT to write your accomplishments. While ChatGPT is a useful tool for a great many things, it is not good for accomplishments. It will make up numbers—even when there shouldn't be numbers (who can increase happiness by a number?!)—and what it pumps out just 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙨 icky. Plus, most recruiters and employers can call out AI-generated "accomplishments" a mile away. Thank you for listening to today's resume PSA. _________________________ Most job seekers have no idea if their resume is working or getting lost in the abyss. Take a look at this email response I had to send. (Check the screenshot. 👇) After being asked to take a 45-minute psychometric test as a first step, with zero human contact or even a basic introduction, I decided it was time to push back. And here’s the kicker: the email I received was so obviously ChatGPT-generated, it felt like the company was barely trying. Here’s the thing: This isn’t just one isolated incident. For too many candidates, job applications have become an exhausting series of hoops to jump through. 45-minute assessments before a single hello. Loom videos, personality tests, endless paperwork… And AI-generated rejection emails that barely pretend to know who you are. For anyone out there who’s in hiring, here’s a radical thought: If you want qualified candidates, respect their time. Skip the endless tests, AI messages, and faceless ‘processes.’ Because talented people will walk away if they feel your company doesn’t value their time or effort. If you’re a job seeker feeling the same way, let’s just say: You’re definitely not alone.

If you've ever been in the job market and finally landed the right job by changing the wording, you know that this concept works. While AI has its pros and cons, this can certainly be one of the pros if used correctly. Very insightful information:

If you have a job, you are usually disconnected from what the applicant experience is like right now. If you're looking for a new role and feeling the burnout, know you're not alone. Consider building a resume talent profile on ChatGPT. Copy and paste your details from linkedin and your resumes to build a complex and detailed list of skills. When you find a job you want, copy that job description into your ChatGPT session with that saved data. Ask the system to create a resume that meets and exceeds the job description based on your data. Do this for any job you need and want to be competitive for. It'll help save your sanity, beat ATS, and give you a text based resume that's largely accurate. Make sure to double check ChatGPT's outputs though, you'll still want to critique it's work yourself before sending.

When you get a new role (internal or external) you'll most likely tailor your activities to meet the demands of the role. To get a better shot at said position, tailor your resume to align with the job description. Adam Broda lists a great way to do this.

🔥 Follow up to a comment I saw on another post about the federal application process. It’s important to remember that those resumes (not all, but many) often have a different “format” and an addition “vetting” process within them. ✅ Within the resume it’ll often ask for more info (salary, complete dates, actual address - not just city and state, etc.) that’s not typically on a traditional resume format. If not provided, the resume may be rejected. They usually announce it in the job ad (usually). ✅ in addition to the job ad itself….. The info (answers) in the QUESTIONNAIRE are verified in the resume. I’m many cases - there are KSAs, key words, systems, processes, etc. in the questionnaire but not the job ad, so it’s easy to answer, but not place them in the acutal resume. If the proof is not in the pudding, then it’s also passed over. And The two steps above + all the other things possibly required documents such as SF-15, college transcript (sometimes highlight required “classes” and/or minimum GPA, etc.) easily cause people to be rejected. My advice is to print the job ad AND questionnaire, go through with a fine tooth comb, and turn it into a checklist. This will help so you don’t miss anything within the application process. * Also going back to the people and services that help (including CHATGPT), make sure they understand the “application requirements”. Hope this helps! You better call Tyrone
