OKAY. So it's finally time to talk about something I've been working on since January. ✨
As a side-project, I've been building a new editing tool called Pilcrow.
There are LOTS of writing tools out there. Google Docs, Notion, Craft. Loads.
What makes Pilcrow different?
All those tools are great at a lot of things. But what they all suck at is the actual writing bit.
They make great company wikis. They make awesome company docs and spreadsheets. They even work as websites. Fuck, you can run your entire company on them!
But every-time you just want to write up a thought or an idea - you get frustrated. You're overwhelmed by a bazillion options. Features up the wazoo. And they're slow as hell.
After a while, you're back to Notes, Slack DM's or even pen and paper. Me too.
All of these tools started as great editors. But over the years they've become unloved, bloated, and clunky. I want not only somewhere I *can* write, but that actually *helps* me write.
Writing isn't about showing up with all of it in your head. The very act of writing helps you flesh out your thoughts and understand things you didn't before. It's an extension of your brain, cutting through the thicket, trying to get to the universal truth.
And that's what Pilcrow does.
It also does a lot more like:
🤖 "Quiet" AI assistance to help you edit, research, and create
🧹 Linting picks up errors, slips, and mistakes
💾 Versioning - Similar to Git, you can create multiple drafts and merge them
🎹 Everything can be done from the keyboard
⚡ Super fast and responsive. No bloat.
🎁 and loads more...
I'm going to share some videos over the next few weeks how I've been using it.
I'm running a private beta (because AI is expensive) where I'll let a small number of people in to use it for free initially. The dough isn't quite set yet but if there's something here - I'll charge a small fee to cover the compute costs etc.
If you're interested in using it, DM me and I'll get you on the waitlist.

2wThank you for the insights, Marcin! I'm a bit in the same boat regarding SQL. Tried to hide it with abstraction frameworks in the past. But of course my personal high-light is still using Next.js on Vercel as a delivery platform. It's a great stack for new web applications and it covers so many non-functional requirements just out of the box it's amazing. 🤩 BTW: 🎁 there's a 50% discount during the next month on Product Hunt for Chronologies Pro!
