Artificial intelligence is able to determine with an accuracy of 90% if the brain image it is looking at is from a male or a female. Stanford University. "The model’s success suggests that detectable sex differences do exist in the brain but just haven’t been picked up reliably before. The fact that it worked so well in different datasets, including brain scans from multiple sites in the U.S. and Europe, make the findings especially convincing as it controls for many confounds that can plague studies of this kind." #neurodiversity #neuroscience #brainmapping #artificialintelligence https://lnkd.in/eZUYawgh.

“Neuroplasticity emerges as the beacon guiding the way ahead as research and practice unite, navigating the complex landscape of brain damage. Researchers and clinicians map pathways of recovery that improve the lives of persons affected by brain damage by utilizing the potential of neuroplasticity. Neurofeedback and rt-fMRI therapies leverage neuroplasticity by using the brain's ability to adapt and remodel itself. Patients gain the ability to control their brain activity, which encourages self-regulation and cognitive development.” 🧠 🙌 🌟🫶🏻💙 #ISNR #NIH #NLM #neuroplasticity #neurofeedback #hope #neuroregulation #JoinISNR #NiagraFallsNY2025 #neuroscience #psychology

For time immemorial the nature of human consciousness has been discussed and debated. I have spoken at length about neuronormativity and neuroqueer theory, positioning the Self as a moving target that grows and changes dependent on it's cultural and environmental context, socially constructed by those we interact with. #actuallyautistic #Autism #autistic #diagnosis #diagnosticcriteria #medicalmodel #neurodivergence #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #neurodiversityparadigm #neurofuturism #neurofuturist #neuroqueer #neuroqueertheory #Neuroqueering #onological #onotology #pathological #pathology #pathologyparadigm #philosophy

🚦 How does our brain adapt to predict the future? Temporal regularities, like a changing traffic light, help us anticipate what's coming next. 🧠 HFSP Fellowship Awardee Matthias Fritsche and his team at the University of Oxford have uncovered fascinating insights into how the brain learns to adapt visual decisions to these patterns. In their recent Nature Communications paper, the team demonstrated for the first time that mice can adapt their visual decisions to temporal regularities. They revealed the computational principles behind this adaptation using reinforcement learning algorithms and dopamine signaling. This breakthrough offers key insights into how the brain exploits temporal patterns to enhance perception and decision-making and what happens when these processes disappear in conditions like Parkinson's disease, autism, and schizophrenia. 🌍 Read more about this groundbreaking study: https://bit.ly/3CbbNaR #Neuroscience #BrainResearch #VisualPerception #TemporalPatterns #HFSPResearch

Are we all neurodivergent? Emergiing neuroscience says every brain is unique, regardless of labels like "neurotypical" or "neurodiveregent." Variability in dopamine levels and brain plasticity means we all process information differently. Cognitive diversity isn't limited to autism or ADHD- it's part of being human. Looking forward to some discussion on "Is neurodivergency universal?" and the definition of being "normal." #neurodiversity #neuroscience #mentalhealth #neurology

ESI SyNC 2024: In her talk “Neural mechanisms of attending to moments in time”, Prof. Denison explored how our brains prioritize to focus in a dynamic world. Her key messages: Dynamic and temporal attention: the visual system prioritizes input in dynamic environments, with temporal attention focusing on when, not where, to act. This ability is critical for survival and adaptation to changing stimuli. Behavioral trade-offs and regeneration: Temporal attention consumes resources; focusing on one moment reduces awareness of others. Recovery time highlights limited resources. Frontal singular cortex and mechanisms: Temporal attention affects the left frontal singular cortex, which is important for concentration amidst distractions, through various neural mechanisms. Computational predictions: models of attentional dynamics improve understanding of brain activity and cognitive processes. Applications: Understanding the frontal singular cortex could lead to new interventions for disorders such as ADHD in which attentional control is impaired.
