The research suggests that the #ketogenic diet holds potential neuroprotective benefits for #glaucoma management. Specifically, it has been shown to improve 𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, reduce 𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 in animal models. However, challenges related to diet composition and individual response need further study. More real-world data is required to confirm its mechanisms, optimize its use before it can be widely recommended for glaucoma. Additionally, plant-based low-carb diets may support better glucose control, potentially impacting glaucoma progression. Ongoing research is essential to fully explore KD's therapeutic role. Allulose has been shown to protect retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in animal models. Studies suggest that Allulose exerts neuroprotective effects on retinal ganglion cells by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. In particular, Allulose can activate pathways such as AMPK, which promotes cellular energy balance and resilience against damage. These protective effects have been observed in animal models of retinal degeneration, where Allulose helped preserve the structure and function of RGCs, which are crucial for maintaining vision.
