Ports are balancing their responses, such as not charging for storage during a work stoppage but maintaining awareness of free time accumulation. For shippers, the message is clear: expedite logistics and prepare for potential delays, especially for time-sensitive or refrigerated cargo. The proactive communication and extended operational hours reflect an industry bracing for major disruption, where preparation will be key to minimizing supply chain chaos. 4o

Tick tock... T-minus 5 days and counting. As we stare down the largest supply chain disruption since covid, it's being reported that both the International Longshoremen Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance remain locked in a media blame game instead of being at the table actively negotiating. It's estimated that for each day of a strike it will require 5 days to unwind the backlog once the 22 ports reopen. The costs are astronomical on paper and elsewhere. The current administration is remaining on mostly the sidelines despite a US Labor Deparment outreach effort last week. Here's to hoping the right people are working as hard as ever to get this resolved. #supplychain #logistics #freight #ILA #strike

A possible strike could disrupt operations at key ports along the East and Gulf Coasts. As a result, several ocean carries have announced a series of surcharges to cover the higher operational costs that will be incurred if service disruptions. This can include rerouting ships and securing alternative ports. One example is Ocean Network Express, which recommended that shippers pick up cargo at alternate discharging ports prior to Oct 1. #strike #east #gulf #coast #port #labor

A looming #EastCoast 🚢 port 🚧 #strike could shake the economy, causing delays, shortages, spoilage, and more. The delicate balance of our just-in-time 🚛 logistics system is like a row of dominoes ready to topple, rippling outwards and causing a cascade of downstream effects. With businesses accelerating imports and redirecting cargo, a short strike could still lead to significant disruptions. Let's 🤞 hope negotiations yield a new contract before 🗓 Oct. 1 to prevent an estimated 💸 $5 billion a day loss to the economy. #OSINT #ContextualIntelligence #CargoTheft #supplychain #supplychainsecurity #supplychainvisibility #supplychainriskmanagement #supplychaindisruption #logistics #portstrike #logistics #justintime #dominoeffect

As the port strike on the US east and Gulf coasts enters its third day, container supply chain analysts are beginning to calculate just how many vessels and how much capacity might find itself ensnarled in mounting congestion. “Should the strike last for the entirety of October, then 2.22m teu of container shipping capacity will be unable to move, equal to a loss of 7.2% of the global container shipping fleet." Gavin van Marle reports. #containershipping #oceanshipping #oceanfreight #seafreight #supplychain #logistics https://lnkd.in/eP-EMy2N

🚢 The ILA Strike is Over: What Should Shippers Prioritize Now? 🚢 The recent International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) strike may have been short-lived, but its impact on cargo backlogs and port operations will be felt for weeks. As ports along the East and Gulf Coasts work to recover, it’s crucial for shippers to refocus their strategies. Key priorities for shippers post-strike: *Clear Cargo Backlogs: It may take the remainder of October to restore normal operations. Be proactive in managing delayed shipments and communicating with customers. *Optimize Supply Chain Diversification: The strike showed how important it is to diversify supply chain routes. Continue to assess options like West Coast ports and railways. *Monitor Capacity Constraints: With reduced capacity from Europe to North America in the coming weeks, planning ahead is critical to avoid disruptions. *Strengthen Risk Management Plans: The tentative deal extends the master contract until January 2025, but future disruptions are still possible. Strengthening contingency plans will help mitigate risks down the road. What are you focusing on to stabilize your supply chain post-strike? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #SupplyChain #Logistics #Shipping #Freight #ILA #Ports

Emergency! Dozens of container ships heading to the #US may be forced to stop sailing! #Logistics may be delayed on a large scale According to the latest news, the United States Maritime Union (#USMX) and the International Longshoremen's Association (#ILA) are in controversial negotiations on a new master contract, and the current agreement will expire on September 30, 2024. A large-scale strike at the port could have a "devastating impact" on the US economy and bring a "logistics storm" to the global supply chain. Currently, there are less than five days left before the expiration of the ILA contract, and the shipping industry is ready to deal with the impact. If no agreement is reached, ILA plans to strike from October 1, which will affect 45,000 dock workers at major container ports in the East Coast and the Gulf of #Mexico. 36 ports on the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico coast of the United States may be closed, including 5 of the 10 busiest ports in North America, which is expected to paralyze the already tense supply chain and make cargo transfer and transportation a logistics nightmare. If the strike lasts for one day, the container backlog at ports on the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico will take five days to clear. If the strike lasts two weeks, the backlog will not be cleared until early 2025.

As a potential strike at US East Coast and Gulf ports looms, shippers are seeking alternatives, with Canadian ports like Halifax and Montreal emerging as key options. With automation disputes threatening to disrupt cargo flows, global supply chains may face significant delays. However, Canadian ports could encounter their own challenges, such as longer transit times and bottlenecks. As we approach October 1st, the industry braces for potential impacts. #SupplyChain #ShippingIndustry #PortOperations #GlobalTrade #CanadianPorts #EastCoastStrike #SupplyChainDisruption Thomas Gronen May Yau Ashley Yeung Gaurav Thakur Timo Lorenz https://lnkd.in/evY3YQm5
