Leadership development is an important part of any organization and a highly profitable $77.9 billion industry. But are these leadership training materials effective? As it turns out, probably not. 🤨 Only 23% of leaders surveyed believed that their leadership development resources were high quality. The solution may be to return to more "old school" methods, such as in-person mentoring and focusing on developing habits that promote success. Why would you ask your managers if your leadership development program is effective? 🙄 I often hear from prospective clients who are confident their leadership training programs are "great." They gather feedback from participants, check the boxes, and decide there's no need for improvement. But here’s the catch: THEY'RE ASKING THE WRONG PEOPLE. To truly assess the impact of leadership training, you need to ask the subordinates of the managers going through the program. These are the people who experience the real-world application (or lack thereof) of the training every day. Are their leaders more effective? Has communication improved? Are they more engaged and empowered? Your leadership training is only as good as the changes it drives at the team level. So, before you declare your program a success, ask the people who matter most—the employees who work under those managers. Who better to set the direction of leadership development than the leaders themselves? This Tuesday, we launched an exciting series of leadership trainings, all led by our very own leadership team! These sessions were handpicked by leaders during a roundtable discussion where I requested feedback and direction for our 2024 leadership training initiatives. I was excited not only to learn from this group but also to hear directly from them what they wanted to learn. Imagine my excitement when they agreed to lead these trainings themselves! Each session will be facilitated by leaders at Kreg who are recognized as subject matter experts. It's easy to think that HR holds all the expertise on culture and engagement, but the truth is, we have an abundance of talented leaders throughout our organization who have invaluable insights to share.
