📅 Only one week left until the doors open to the annual Global Internship Conference (GIC)! 🎉 This year, experts and enthusiasts will gather to discuss the crucial topic of "Collaborating to Shape Future Talent." 🌟 🤝 When I first heard about the GIC, I was excited to meet new talents and learn from other companies about their approaches to attracting interns. But I soon realized that this event is much more than that. It's a platform where representatives from governments, educational institutions, enterprises, and talents come together to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and explore ways to collaborate more effectively. 🍰 I've experienced firsthand the value of internships, from my first internship at a confectionary, where I was amazed by the precision and interactive dance of the pastry chefs, to my later internships, where I noticed my growth and development. 🤔 In my professional life, recruiting interns has always been a team effort to create appealing job ads and offer extra incentives. However, this was not necessarily an effort across different teams, even less so considering its relevance for the educational sector and a country. 💡 Now, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to broaden my horizons and hear from governments and education about their approaches to shaping talent. 🌱 This is us opening the plenary. May we spark engaging discussions, illuminating meetings, and making new connections that will help us all collaborate better. - Lord David Anderson of Ipswich KBE KC, UK Parliament - Mariana Peters, Change Consultant for Bosch, Deutsche Bahn, and Individuals - Rebecca Pasini, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Private Sector Exchanges, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State - Jane Swift, President, Education at Work - Ahmad Ezzeddine, Vice President for Academic Student Affairs and Global Engagement, Wayne State University and Vice President for Scholarship & Institutional Strategy, NAFSA 🎤 Share your voice, and let's shape the future of talent together. #GlobalInternshipConference #GIC #futureTalent #collaboration #london

#InternshipStories Shangjie Dai (Jerry), a Class of 2026 student majoring in Political Economy (Public Policy Track), completed an internship in the summer of 2024 with the Center for China and Globalization (CCG). During this experience, he honed his Rstudio and Excel skills and gained valuable exposure to organizing large-scale events. Below, Jerry shares his reflections and insights from the internship. Q: Why did you choose to intern at a CCG? Jerry: My decision was driven by a strong interest in the think tank sector. I wanted to immerse myself in the work environment and understand how think tanks operate and contribute to society. Additionally, given my background in public policy, pursuing a career in a think tank is a potential path for me. This internship provided a valuable opportunity to expand my network and lay a foundation for my future career. Q: What were your primary responsibilities during the internship? Jerry: My role at CCG was divided into two main areas. The first was core research work, which involved data collection, analysis, and drafting reports. Beyond my responsibilities in the research department, I actively participated in organizing several large-scale events hosted by the think tank. These events went beyond the regular scope of research tasks, offering me hands-on experience in event planning and opportunities to engage with diverse stakeholders. These experiences deepened my understanding of think tank operations and enriched my professional journey. Q: Do you have any reflections or advice for others pursuing internships? Jerry: Building strong interpersonal relationships in the workplace is essential. It's important to foster friendships with fellow interns while maintaining appropriate communication with supervisors—striking a balance between being proactive and respectful. Don’t hesitate to share constructive ideas and solutions in roles requiring insight and creativity. Adopting a positive attitude, boldly contributing your ideas, and staying humble will help you grow and excel professionally. Investing in interns helps companies build a loyal talent pipeline
https://lnkd.in/ecGBj-Rj I am thrilled to share my article on how internships are an excellent way for organizations to build a pipeline of talent and help identify individuals who demonstrate passion, perseverance, competencies and curiosity. It is thanks to great employer partnerships such as those with Bombardier, Vffice, AtkinsRéalis and Nestlé Health Science who have revealed invaluable insights on how to engage interns to then become permanent employees. Top employers like them invest time and energy in their internship programs and the ROI is countless. Recruiting student interns makes good business sense. I'm also proud that we heard the voice of a student during their journey in the Concordia University - Institute for Co-operative Education where they learn, grow and assess different organizations to determine their careers and future professional home. Some key tips in building a successful internship: *Assign Meaningful Work *Focus on Culture *Incorporate regular check-ins & feedback *Create a sense of belonging *Provide training Thank you to Marco Beaulieu, Savannah Carvalho, Vince Hua, Julie Lavallee and Josephine L. (Josie) Scalia for sharing their expert advice and experience. #experientiallearning #cooperativeeducation #studentinterns Concordia Alumni Concordia University #workintergratedlearning CEWIL/ECAIT Canada #Concordia50 #careers CACEE / ACSEE #ROI

Here are some key takeaways from meeting Kay G.: First, it’s essential to identify the driving force behind your goals and achievements. I prefer to describe this as a "driving force" rather than simply "motivation," as it suggests a sense of continuity. This driving force is what gets you to work, encourages you to hit the gym, and pushes you to engage with the world. It should stem from your own proactive decisions to move closer to your goals, whether in the short term or the long term. Secondly, consider the energy and community that accompany your drive. Surrounding yourself with wise and positive individuals is crucial. I learned that the Future Today Institute, despite being a more concise team, possesses immense power and energy. The empathy, transparency, and vibrant energy shared among team members create an environment that fosters creativity and strategic thinking. Thirdly, it’s important to recognize that the resources at your disposal are not merely pathways to your goals. Instead, they provide the tools necessary for experimentation, making mistakes, and trial and error. This approach allows you to engage with your work practically and professionally while presenting your ideas to other professionals or potential clients and receiving valuable feedback. Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to Kay, the HR Director at the Future Today Institute, for her uplifting words during this challenging time in my life. As an international student, I won’t sugarcoat it—job hunting in the U.S. is a significant challenge, and I know many domestic undergraduates share similar struggles. I'm committed to putting myself and my work out there, leveraging my strengths in Corporate Strategy and Business Development. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Melanie Subin and Helina Andargie for connecting us, as well as my professor at Parsons School of Design, Dave Mastronardi, who initially encouraged me to look into the Future Today Institute.
Global Leader in Strategic Foresight | HR Director at Future Today Institute | Expert in Managing a Remote Workforce, Developing HR Best Practices, & Strategic Change Management
Today I had a wonderful conversation with Yvonne Kuo. She’s a bright student, who was instructed by her professor to reach out to companies of interest for internship opportunities. Although I initially approached this call as a chance to explore her interests and build our pipeline at FTI, about 15 minutes into our call my objective changed. Yvonne recognized that having coveted time with an HR leader was a golden opportunity to ask thoughtful questions. And as she did, I was reminded why I love my job so much. Our call was fruitful - she asked thoughtful questions about entering the workforce and establishing her career. We collaboratively brainstormed ways for her to gain experience, in tandum with structured internships, as an international student. I highly recommend Yvonne on her journey into Corporate Strategy and Business Development.

Young working-class professionals are ‘blocked’ from creative industries The Guardian highlighted the results of a study that paints a delicate picture of the UK’s creative sector: young people from working-class backgrounds face systemic barriers to enter arts and entertainment jobs. The reasons are strongly connected to low wages in early years, including unpaid internships, and the lack of a network that support the access. This issue, unfortunately, is not new and is far from isolated. Globally, creative industries face similar obstacles that prevent fresh, diverse talent from breaking through. In an age where innovative and diverse perspectives are increasingly essential, can we afford to let privilege dictate opportunity? For all of us involved in these sectors, I believe that this is a call to action. It’s time to rethink how we certify skills, how we offer internships, hire talent, and structure opportunities. Ensuring that creative careers are accessible for all should be a global priority that touches the future of our shared cultural landscape. Source: https://lnkd.in/d8a8AYuN

Today, I had the opportunity to speak at a Career Panel for Elsevier's Rising TIDE Internship Programme. 🌟 The Rising TIDE (Tomorrow, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) internship programme cultivates inclusion and diversity while providing underrepresented graduates with exposure to the corporate landscape. It was inspiring to hear fellow speakers' (Rebecca (Beccy) Rodger MBA PGDip CBCP, Elliott Parris & Maxine Herman-Oakley Mills) journeys across sales, HR and publishing as well. Here are some of the key learnings I shared with our interns as they are looking to make the transition from school to the workplace. 1️⃣ Embrace change in our ever-evolving world. 🔑 Every role is a learning opportunity. 🤝 Build relationships and network inside and outside of your team. 👍 Say yes, then figure it out later. 👥 Surround yourself with good mentors. 📚 Continuously upskill and embrace new tools. But above all, take full charge of your career. #CareerGrowth #RisingTIDE #DiversityAndInclusion #ProfessionalDevelopment #ElsevierLife

Introducing Ida Hugander, one of our interns, who is spending her summer working with the Analysys Mason team in Sweden. We caught up with her to see how her experience has been so far: Q: What was your most significant learning experience during your internship? Ida: It was working on a report about the Swedish mobile market. I updated data for the major operators and analysed recent trends and regulations in the sector. Additionally, I reviewed the results of the 2023 spectrum auction and identified key takeaways. Although I was initially unfamiliar with the TMT sector, I embraced the challenge and gained a deeper understanding of its complexities. This project not only expanded my knowledge but also enhanced my proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Q: Can you describe a project or task you’re particularly proud of? Ida: I am particularly proud of my contribution to a project on equality and sustainability. I conducted research, reached out to potential contacts, and assisted with PowerPoint presentations. The project's goal was to promote equality in the bioeconomy sector. Being part of Analysys Mason’s efforts in these critical areas was incredibly rewarding, as I had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change. Q: What skills have you developed or improved during your internship? Ida: I deepened my understanding of the tech and telecoms industries and their societal impact. Additionally, I significantly enhanced my technical skills in tools such as PowerPoint and Excel. Q: What have you enjoyed most about working with your colleagues? Ida: I have truly enjoyed the welcoming and supportive atmosphere among my colleagues. From day one, I felt included and valued, which greatly enriched my experience. Engaging in discussions with my colleagues further enhanced my learning journey. Q: What advice would you give to future interns? Ida: Embrace this opportunity for professional growth. Approach your tasks with confidence and don’t hesitate to ask for help!
