Your Voice Matters: Addressing Ongoing Challenges for Youth Refugees Today, I want to talk about the voices of youth refugees. More than two years since the beginning of the war, many still face the same challenges they encountered upon their arrival. Language barriers, community outreach, and access to information remain critical issues. I've noticed a lack of guidance for these young individuals. It's essential to have mentors who inspire and guide them, whether from families or professionals they work with. Many seem lost, understandably focused on their past lives in Ukraine. So, how can our community support them? Active listening might be a solution. Open discussions are crucial as they allow youth to express themselves and share their experiences. But is participating in cultural activities enough to facilitate social inclusion? Is inviting them to attend a festival or a field trip sufficient? I will explore these questions in my daily work and keep you posted on my findings. I would love to hear your thoughts on this important topic. #YouthEmpowerment #RefugeeSupport #ActiveListening #SocialInclusion #CommunityEngagement

Dear Community, In a world that can sometimes feel divided, let's remember to extend a warm hand to those in vulnerable situations, like refugees seeking a new home among us. Their journey to safety is filled with challenges, and arriving in a new neighborhood can amplify feelings of isolation. Taking a moment to reach out, say hello, and listen to their unique stories can make a significant difference. Each individual carries a narrative shaped by experiences, teaching us resilience and strength. A simple smile can bridge gaps and remind us of our common humanity. Despite our differences, we all seek belonging and kindness. Embracing the opportunity to welcome newcomers can create a rich tapestry of experiences in our community. Let's strive to cultivate empathy and compassion, ensuring that every resident feels valued. Together, we have the power to build a neighborhood where everyone feels at home. #community #empathy #inclusion

Given the recent hateful propaganda against the Haitian community in Ohio, I’d like to share the last words I shared with the students and recent grads at the Fierce Urgency of Now Festival - City Awake, a program of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce hosted by Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> You are worthy. Despite the racist, anti-Black, anti-immigrant rhetoric that is being propagated against the Haitian community on a national and international level, that tries to demean and disparage us, you are worthy. To any young Haitian professionals in the room, you are descended from revolutionaries like Toussaint Louverture, great thinkers like WEB Dubois, and creatives like Edwidge Danticat. And to all my BIPOC professionals, you have great intelligence and creativity. And most importantly, you are a child of God created in His image. Your life was meant for purpose and meaning. In today's increasingly divisive world, it's all too easy to believe that unity is in short supply. At Impakt Foundation we work to challenge such a belief in every way possible, and to act as a totem of peace and belonging for all. This mission begins at our organizational level, in which our Founder Paul Klein, a Jewish-Canadian, and our Executive Director Fatemeh Alhosseini, PhD, an Iranian-Canadian, work together in mutual respect and admiration in spite of any differences which their cultural backgrounds imply. Read the article below, written by Paul and Fatemeh, to learn more about how their differences actually stand as a powerful symbol of unity, and about how Impakt Foundation plans on continuing to transmit this unity into our action and programming for immigrants and refugees in Canada. https://lnkd.in/gT2Mnyur

As educators, it's crucial to address anti-refugee sentiment in schools. From celebrating diversity to challenging misinformation, there are many ways you can make a difference. Here are some starting points to counter prejudice and hate, and build an inclusive school community: 1. Communicate through displays and assemblies to show that the school welcomes refugees and asylum seekers. 2. Celebrate refugee pupils’ contributions. 3. Educate pupils on what it means to be a "refugee", "asylum seeker" and "immigrant. 4. Consistently challenge misinformation and prejudice. 5. Engage in events and invite speakers with refugee backgrounds. Lets add to these. Share your successful strategies with us in the comments below!

The radicalization of migrants and diaspora communities has become one of the most significant security and social issues of the 21st century. Anti-immigrant sentiment is rising in many regions and countries around the world. It has become critical to understand not only the socio-political reasons for anti-immigrant sentiment, but also the threats facing immigrant ghettos and the mechanisms of immigrant radicalization. Ghettoization not only isolates immigrants from social life but also increases the risks of radicalization. In his article titled "The Radicalization of Immigrants," Özcan Güngör thoroughly discusses all these issues.
