Did you know that “studies going back to the 1970s and ’80s have tried to understand and solve IUD insertion pain”? Up at Women's Health, a look at Aspivix's innovative answer to the tenaculum and, potentially, #IUD insertion pain:     “So far, results from a very small patient sample haven’t shown statistically significant differences in pain during IUD placement with the Carevix versus the tenaculum, but larger studies will hopefully be able to show a stronger correlation between use of the device and pain reduction, Dr. Alissa Conklin says. Another good sign was that providers perceived that their patients were in less pain when the Carevix was used. The upside is that these early results gave researchers enough information to know they should expand the trials, says Dr. Conklin. YES. New study showing younger patients have higher rate of regret after hysterectomy. But authors wisely also explain: "However, it must be emphasized that these data should not preclude the option of hysterectomy when deemed appropriate, because a strong majority of patients in both age groups were satisfied with their decision. Instead, focus should be placed on shared decision making and respect for patient autonomy when counseling individuals about procedures that result in permanent sterilization." A #concurrent mixed methods study was applied in this study. A quantitative and qualitative data were collected simultaneously while analysis was carried out independently. An #interrupted times series analysis was used for quantitative data and #reflexive thematic analysis was applied for qualitative data. Three forms of data #merging or #integration can employ in a concurrent mixed methods study: data #transformation, #side-by-side comparison, and #joint display techniques that was used in this study which allows the synthesis of #mixed meta-inferences in a single table or figure, and to identify whether the quantitative findings align with or contradict the qualitative findings.  Findings. Regarding #artificial oxytocics, the quantitative data suggest no significant difference in availability between before and during COVID-19, whereas interviewed healthcare providers perceived that the supply completely ran out. #Caesarean birth rates significantly increased in the first 6 months of COVID-19, according to both quantitative and qualitative findings. To sustain and improve the positive trends in intrapartum care experienced before COVID-19, targeted interventions are needed that ensure the availability of medical supplies during a future pandemic. https://lnkd.in/gcWD8-k7

Sudarshan Jadcherla, MD, is a principal investigator with the Center for Perinatal Research and Medical Director of the Neonatal and Infant Feeding Disorders Program at Nationwide Children's Hospital. His research focuses on maturational and dysfunctional mechanisms of neonatal feeding and aero-digestive disorders. The Parent-Implemented Oral Nutrition, Eating and Esophageal Regulation (PIONEER) Products enhance the development of oral-pharyngeal-esophageal motility in infants. This technology (2022-044) is a novel approach for training muscles in non-verbal patients, including neonates, infants, and individuals who have lost skills due to stroke, trauma, or developmental neuropathology. Unlike existing methods, these products stimulate muscles involved in esophageal peristalsis and airway protection without electrical stimulation. By engaging and pre-conditioning select muscles and nerves, the approach helps prevent developmental delays and chronic eating and swallowing difficulties. I have been speaking about this for the past 7 years, and I am so happy that today we have clinical proof on the non-efficacy of drugs that senior women take compared to men. The root cause is, of course, the lack of clinical trials on women and using variables to measure symptoms and results when those variables are based on men rather than women. How can women reduce their risk for Dementia or Alzheimer's, and how do we get data to study the impact of these triggers from pre-menopause to post-menopause where hormones play such a big role? Women outlive men by 5 years on average, and if we don't start addressing these issues, our spending on healthcare will go up exponentially — not withstanding the quality of life that these senior women will face. #seniorwomen #womenshealth #clinicaltrials

A recent study published by the British Medical Journal uncovered a concerning association between the contraceptive injection and brain tumors, raising questions about the safety of progestogen contraceptives used by around 380,000 women in the UK. The study suggests a 5.6 times higher likelihood of developing meningioma after prolonged use. These findings serve as a reminder of the persistent gaps in women's healthcare research, including the historical exclusion of women from clinical studies and drug trials.
