One of life’s great levellers is that we all have the same 24 hours each day. A quote that someone shared with me recently is: “You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé.” While true, this overlooks that Beyoncé has a team of people and substantial support, starting from a young age with her family. Many Elevate participants tell us they don’t have anyone to delegate to and can’t bring their families to work! 😊 Therefore, it's even more essential to optimise our time and achieve the right results. TEAM. I, and my Firm’s page, are about to wax nostalgic because we’ve reached a few very cool milestones: e.g., total number of years in business as NG and the number of years growing our brand with The Bravitas Group Inc. . So, stay tuned for more about that. For this introductory missive , I’ll focus on Team culture. I recall adding the following to my business plan two decades ago: I want to work on projects about which I care with people I enjoy working. I recall a couple of folks questioning this. 🤷🏽♂️ While I can’t attest to the business savvy of that clause in my Plan, I sure can profess to the success of the culture I worked to inculcate. We are a small but mighty Team. We have chemistry and talent in the office that yields incredible service/products. Additionally, we have chemistry outside of the office that creates a very special bond. Team members typically stay for extended periods and when they move on it is with support for the pursuit of their dreams. AND along the way, genuine friendships are born. For example, Joseph Daguman (Big Joe Dagz pictured here) was one of the first three members of my Team. Somewhere along the way the work relationship blossomed into a friendship. He’s been in Cali for almost seven years and not a week goes by that he, Gerard M. Haizel, PP, AICP and I don’t check-in with one another. This weekend, I had the honor of representing the NG Team at Big Joe Dagz’s wedding and I was reminded of just how special my Team is…how special our relationships are…how incredibly fortunate I am! How does one define the “bottom line” in business? Is it a ledger entry? Or a culture of fulfillment and success? I chose the latter. 🌟 Meet the Team: Trace! 🌟 Introducing Trace, our amazing, hilarious, fun, sweary, and passionate Chief Engagement Officer at Canopy SDA! Trace is all about working with participants and Support Coordinators to get participants into the right SDA homes for them. Let's get to know her a little better! 1. Are you a stay-up-late person or a wake-up-early person? "I love to stay up late when I don't have to get up early the following day! I definitely need my sleep and must go to bed before 10pm if I have any chance of being productive on a weekday. I have never been an early bird!" 2. If you could have 1 superpower, what would it be? "This is actually really tough! My first thought was 'the ability to know how someone is feeling/thinking whenever I wanted to'... but that would be a really heavy power. I would actually probably, if given the chance, say 'to be able to fly' like Superman. Catch me in the clouds." 3. What is the best piece of advice that has ever been given to you? "'You are not your thoughts.' I can easily get into a spiral of yukky thoughts. When I learned they are just that—'thoughts' and not 'truths'—I was able to relax and go easier on myself. In work, the best advice I was given is 'it is only as hard as the next step.'" 4. What do you love about your role at Canopy SDA? "The people I get to spend time with, my colleagues, and the people we are building for."
