🏜 Are satellite-derived observations of dust activity really what they seem? ❌ Maybe not! Research I completed during my PhD points to issues in separating the land surface and atmospheric aerosol signals in the Deep Blue Algorithm from one of the mostly widely used satellite instruments in the aerosol sensing community - MODIS ⁉ Our findings uncovered a puzzling resemblance between the algorithm's dust regions and Australia's IBRA bioregional areas.
