One way to encourage the creation of healthy spaces of children is to ‘Promote the social determinants of health: through child-responsive social infrastructure, green spaces, safer streets, urban farming and gardening, and slum upgrading’ Thank you Sudeshna Chatterjee for providing this as one of your strategic recommendations for creating healthy places for children. With a growing need to demonstrate how we can improve health and fight climate change. #parisagreement It’s very important to promote these social determinants of health when creating play spaces. For designers, urban planners and developers to demonstrate the impact of local designing and providing social and natural spaces to play have on these crucial determinants. Three categories I think are particularly relevant are below. 1)Neighbourhood and physical health. 2) #Education 3) Community and social context With #socialdeterminants such as; #communityengagement #earlychildhood #vocationaltraining #playgrounds #socialintegration #stress Play can lead to great outcomes such as improved health #wellbeing. As well as reduced #morbidity and functional limitations. So let’s keep aligning the impact of our work with them.
