Join us at the upcoming Africa Day Alumni Dialogue Series: Challenges and Opportunities Towards Achieving the Agenda 2063, scheduled for May 23, 2024, at 03:00 PM (West Africa Time). Garissa University and Kenya Red Cross sign an MoU to enhance humanitarian studies and capacity building. The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmed Idriss and Prof. Stephen Irura, and witnessed by officials from both institutions.

More than half a billion people in sub-Saharan Africa are at risk of being left without access to #electricity by 2030, and nearly 400 million of them live in countries affected by fragility, conflict and violence. Africa is where the battle for #energy access will be won or lost. Without access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy, the region will not achieve its development goals or the economic transformation that can lift millions out of poverty. Stereotypes in media can perpetuate harmful biases, limit how people see themselves and others, and, in the case below, cause serious economic harm. Negative media stereotypes about Africa are especially prevalent, showing up in news coverage, TV shows, and pop culture, overshadowing the continent's rich diversity, innovation, and resilience. As communicators, the words we use, the voices we amplify, and the narratives we shape have immense power. Let’s challenge ourselves to be more intentional—highlighting authentic stories, featuring diverse perspectives, and using language that uplifts and empowers. The way we tell stories matters and we can do better.

At The Africa CEO Forum 2024, President William Ruto of Kenya emphasised the urgent need to reform the international financial architecture to foster fairer systems. He highlighted the structural inequities within the current financial systems, which often disadvantage African countries. These inequities hinder sustainable development and exacerbate economic vulnerabilities. President Ruto called for reforms that would not only ensure fair access to financial resources and equitable participation in decision-making processes but also create mechanisms that better address the specific needs of developing economies, promising a brighter future for all. President Ruto also stressed the transformative power of unity among African nations. He proposed that the African Union (AU) play a pivotal role in driving these reforms by organising and advocating with a single, cohesive voice. By presenting a united front, African countries can exert more significant influence in international forums and negotiations and inspire a new era of collaboration and solidarity, showcasing the strength and potential of the African continent. https://lnkd.in/dADfFSJF My recent article highlights the paramount role of African leaders, particularly through the African Union, in the new scramble for Africa.
