Native Americans have a complex relationship with Thanksgiving, as the holiday is tied to the history of colonization and its devastating impacts on Indigenous communities. Many Native Americans do not celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional sense. Instead, they often use the day to honor their heritage, educate others, or mourn the losses their communities have endured. Since 1970, the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) have observed the National Day of Mourning in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This event reflects on the historical and ongoing struggles of Native peoples. Participants gather to hold speeches, prayers, and moments of silence to honor Indigenous ancestors and resist stereotypes about Thanksgiving. Traditions might include sharing meals with Indigenous foods and engaging in ceremonies or storytelling that reinforce cultural heritage. For some, Thanksgiving is a time of personal or spiritual reflection, focusing on resilience and the importance of maintaining cultural practices despite historical adversity. It is important to note that the concept of giving thanks is deeply ingrained in many Indigenous cultures, independent of Thanksgiving as a holiday.

From our team to your home, we hope you have a great day filled with spending time with your loved ones. (And eating that extra piece of pie!) We are thankful for each one of the people we work with to make our communities even better! As we pause to celebrate Thanksgiving, I'm struck by a profound truth that many Indigenous peoples have long embraced – gratitude isn't meant to be confined to a single day, but rather woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Their wisdom teaches us that true appreciation is a practice, a way of moving through the world that transforms how we see everything around us. Many Indigenous communities start each day with expressions of thanksgiving – for the sun that rises, for the water that sustains us, for the earth that supports us, and for the connections that bind us together. This daily practice of gratitude isn't just a ritual – it's a powerful lens through which to view life, one that can profoundly impact our well-being and our relationships with others. Let's draw inspiration from these timeless teachings and carry the spirit of thanksgiving with us beyond this holiday. Whether it's starting our meetings with a moment of appreciation, acknowledging our daily wins, or simply taking time to recognize each other's contributions, we can make gratitude a cornerstone of our culture. #Thanksgiving #GiveThanks #ThankfulforYou #TurkeyDinner #Pie #bkonnected #indigenous #communities #team #teachings

Thanksgiving weekend gives many of us a chance to pause and reflect on all we are grateful for. But what does gratitude look like through a decolonized lens? It's about more than just the turkey...🦃 Thanksgiving is often framed as a celebration of abundance, but it’s important to recognize the colonial histories tied to this tradition. How often do we acknowledge the lands we live on, the Nations who are inextricably connected to those lands, and the privileges we hold when we express thanks? Decolonization invites us to think differently about what we are thankful for – and to ask critical questions about the systems that have shaped our privilege. As we reflect this weekend, let's challenge ourselves to carry this awareness into our work. How can we shift our approaches to center Indigenous voices? How can we bring reconciliation and meaningful change to our workplaces and communities? True gratitude isn't just about appreciating what we have – it’s also about using our privilege to create equity, foster understanding, and make space for others. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend, filled with warmth, connection, and reflection 💓

Yesterday was Thanksgiving; Thanksgiving is complicated for me. As an Indigenous woman, this day stirs up more than just thoughts of gratitude—it’s a reminder of a history that isn’t always acknowledged. While many celebrate abundance, we carry the stories of land taken, broken promises, and the resilience of those who came before us. For my community, every day is about gratitude—gratitude for the land, for relationships, and for traditions that ground us. Gratitude isn’t tied to a calendar date; it’s woven into how we live, care, and connect with the world around us. This time of year, I think a lot about how we can all do better. True gratitude is about more than thankfulness—it’s about responsibility. What are we doing to care for the land we stand on? How are we showing up for Indigenous communities today, not just in words but in action? If you’re celebrating, here are a few things to consider: 1. Honor the Land: Find out whose traditional territory you live on and learn about their stories. 2. Support Indigenous Businesses: Your purchases can help strengthen Indigenous economies. 3. Listen to Indigenous Voices: Engage with Indigenous stories, not just during Thanksgiving but year-round. For me, this season is about grounding myself in the strength of my ancestors and continuing to walk the path they paved, knowing that resilience and joy can coexist. #ThanksgivingReflections #IndigenousVoices #TruthAndReconciliation #GratitudeWithAction

🦃 **Thanksgiving: Honoring Tradition While Respecting History** Thanksgiving is a cherished time for many families to reflect on gratitude, share meals, and uphold beloved traditions. However, its historical roots bring complex emotions, especially for Indigenous communities who see the holiday as a reminder of colonization and its lasting impacts. Balancing these perspectives can deepen the meaning of Thanksgiving. Keeping traditions alive—like gathering with loved ones—can coexist with taking time to acknowledge the full history, honoring Indigenous resilience and contributions. Educating ourselves, supporting Native organizations, and incorporating respectful practices can make the holiday both meaningful and inclusive. 🌍 *How do you celebrate Thanksgiving?* Let’s exchange ideas! #Thanksgiving #RespectAndGratitude #TraditionAndInclusion

Gratitude and Reflection This Thanksgiving 🍁🦃✨ As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, it’s a time to express gratitude for the blessings in our lives. However, it’s also a time to reflect on the history behind this holiday—a history that is complex and, for many, painful. Thanksgiving is often associated with ideals of unity and shared prosperity, but its origins are deeply tied to the history of Indigenous peoples in the United States. The arrival of European settlers brought immense suffering to Native communities, including displacement, loss of culture, and violence. This Thanksgiving let’s take a moment to honor and recognize the resilience and contributions of Indigenous peoples, whose histories and cultures are foundational to this land. 🌎🌿 Here are a few meaningful ways to engage in this reflection: ✨ Educate ourselves about the history of the Native peoples whose land we inhabit. 🛍️ Support Indigenous-owned businesses, artists, and organizations. 📣 Amplify Indigenous voices and advocate for policies that protect their rights and sovereignty. Thanksgiving is an opportunity not just to celebrate but to learn, acknowledge, and act. By doing so, we create a more inclusive and thoughtful tradition—one that embraces truth and respect. Wishing everyone a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, growth, and meaningful connection. 🍂💛
