The other side of mechanical engineering and its related trades - requiring, in many ways, even more skill (knowledge, problem solving, leadership, ability to think on your feet and to make quick decisions, and many more), all without the thrill of building something new, under the weight of omnipresent signs of the tragedy, and knowing that any one small mistake may cause an even larger crisis. https://lnkd.in/ghiWcmPk

Zero down time / Keep the trains running / We'll move! #polyurethanegrouting #rail #geotechnicalengineering #settlementcorrection
Shout out to all the hardworking professionals out there VE-ing underdrains out of grade crossings! CJGeo recently tackled a challenge in Tennessee where a modular grade crossing deflected due to saturation of the underlying base material. This caused the panels to act like diaphragm pumps, pumping out a bunch of base material and causing the crossing to settle up to three inches. The nearby truck stop and restaurant began fielding customer complaints, and the railroad put a slow order on the crossing. Working with a local MOW contractor, CJGeo was able to lift all 12 crossing panels back to their original grade before the Bojangles lunch rush. The team used CJGrout 48NHL, known for its 4x FOS for heavy haul rail crossings. This grout can be injected directly into water without impacting its physical properties, cures within a few minutes, and has just enough elasticity to not break apart like cementitious grouts do in high dynamic loading environments. #maintenanceofway #railwayinfrastructure #geotechnicalengineering #civilengineering #railroads

Utilizing equipment such as a VLN create a safer lift by minimizing risk. We take pride in the use of lifting equipment that reduce both cost and risk. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #liftplanning #industrialtechnology
"We had 19 men tied off to pieces of metal hanging there waiting for the next piece. Being able to maneuver the load without taglines and with precision ensured that the crew was able to place it without taking their hands off their spot, maintaining 3-point contact. When we went back to the project for the second time, the guys said they wouldn't do it again unless the VLN was there." -Randy Leroux, Branch Manager Sterling Crane Have you ever wondered how transmission towers are constructed? It's no easy feat. Sterling Crane faced a massive challenge: Connecting a dam to the British Columbia Hydro power grid. Lifting enormous 42,000-pound triangular structures (that often behave like giant sails in high winds), they dealt with a congested construction site, and a pressing need for innovative solutions. Sterling Crane's first encounter with the VLN occurred during a demonstration organized by Cross Country Canada Supplies & Rentals, one of Vita's distributors, in Alberta. They decided to give it a try and the results were nothing short of remarkable. The Vita Load Navigator not only provided enhanced safety measures but also allowed for precise load control, streamlining the entire process. Marine fenders are crucial protective elements to reduce impact forces between vessels and port infrastructures worldwide. But how can we protect and secure the function of the fenders themselves? Much of the answer lies in effective, corrosion-resistant bolting components. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/evXa_ngF

Let’s see, hot air spy balloons go unchecked, Chinese conglomerates buy farm land around Air Force bases, our telecommunication systems have been attacked and taken off line, our power grid has been attacked and taken off line, financial institutions and hospitals have been attacked and taken off line, one now two major transportation bridges have been taken down by barge collisions, our ships are being shot at by Iran or Iran proxies after we released hundreds of billion s in dollars to them, Iran is going around our sanctions and selling oil to China and Russia, while we are once again oil-dependent, inflation and crime is out of control. Know what, I am tired of typing, so bottom line … we are not better off under Biden’s leadership,

Different site investigation methods for different end-uses... We've had an interesting couple of days this week investigating land adjacent to railway sidings. In-situ plate load tests and dynamic sample boreholes have allowed us to characterise ground conditions beneath an area of proposed new sidings; ensuring minimal settlement will occur when the ground is subject to increased loads from freight trains and cranes. #geotechnicalinvestigation #groundinvestigation #geoenvironmental
