Fifth edition of Play for Change Awards open for submissions TIE: Toy Industries of Europe (TIE) is calling on all toy suppliers with a vision for change to enter the fifth edition of the European Play for Change Awards. The awards celebrate purpose-driven toy companies who promote positive societal change through their toys and initiatives. The awards welcome applications in three categories: Diversity & Inclusion, Sustainability and Life Skills. The Diversity & Inclusion category recognises toys and initiatives which promote diversity in terms of gender, race, status, religion and ability, fostering an inclusive play environment where every child feels represented and valued. Sustainability celebrates efforts to reduce the environmental impact of toys, from eco-friendly materials to innovative packaging solutions and sustainable processes, or to inspire children to become stewards of the planet. The Life Skills category will be awarding toys and initiatives which equip kids with essential skills for the 21st century, such as emotional resilience or coding, preparing them for success in an ever-changing world. #toys #toynews #awards #change #toyindustry #playforchange

Used toys, what are your thoughts about it? I connect used toys to new owners passionately, specifically: Lego. A chance encounter on a plane in 2016 sparked the inspiration behind my little store on Carousell Group, Re.Playwell. While stowing my laptop bag under the seat during a flight to Hanoi, I stumbled upon a lone Mickey Mouse Duplo Figurine. I picked it up and carried it along in my bag for years. Fast forward a few years, and that same Mickey became a cherished companion for my daughter as she discovered the joys of Duplo and all things Disney. Witnessing the enduring spark of creativity and imagination that same Mickey figurine ignited in my daughter made me wonder: "How many other preloved toys were out there, waiting to inspire another generation of children?" The answer, as it turns out, is a lot! The used toy market is booming, expected to reach a staggering $23 billion in the US alone by 2027. This growth is fueled by a confluence of factors: Cost-consciousness, Sustainability, and Shifting attitudes. The stigma associated with used toys is fading, replaced by an appreciation for the value and lifespan of well-maintained playthings. With Re.Playwell, my passion is to give preloved Lego a second chance to inspire young minds. I deeply believe in the power of play to spark creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and foster a love for learning. Adults buying TOYS for themselves is now the most important age group, overtaking 3-5 year olds. I know that I have talked a lot about the power of the fan and this is yet another signpost for how the world is moving on. I imagine a big part of this will be the collectors market and items like Funko Pops being a big driver here. But when you look at the retail price for a single large Lego kit (looking at you Hogwarts Castle that is £400+) then this overtaking suddenly feels a lot more understandable. Interesting to see where this will go next, the revenue is there to chase clearly.
