#CEASE #FIRE #IN #THE #MIDDLE #EAST! As #Chairman of the #Foundation #for #World #Peace (FWP), I am pleased to announce the successful negotiation of a ceasefire between #Hamas and #Israel. This #historic #agreement marks a significant step forward in reducing violence and fostering #stability in the region. The ceasefire will not only benefit both parties directly involved but also contribute to the broader peace efforts across the #Middle #East. It represents a critical opportunity for #dialogue, #understanding, and #lasting #peace. We hope that this moment of resolution can pave the way for further #diplomatic #engagements and serve as a foundation for #future #cooperation. Peace is quickly becoming a paid service. It's no longer a public good but an excludable one, increasingly resembling a club good. This means that for some to have peace, others should have less. Furthermore, peace is now showing signs of becoming rivalrous, impacting its accessibility on a broader scale. In certain scenarios, maintaining peace in one country might necessitate conflict in another or to stay neutral to your neighbours suffering. Similarly, at local level, communities are increasingly segregated based on resources allocated to peace ( e.g. gated communities or private security). Peace distribution becomes uneven across different groups and neighbourhoods. As a result, peace is transitioning to being a club good (think Nato) at best and a private good at worst. The Global Peace Index shows that the world is becoming less peaceful for 12th time in the last 16 years. #peace #publicgood #club #security #inclusiveness #justice #policy

As we observe this day, we honor the dedication of our volunteers and staff who risk their lives every day to provide aid amidst chaos. They remind us that peace is built on trust, solidarity, and compassion. In a world facing compounding crises, I urge everyone to reflect on what we can do — individually and collectively — to build a more peaceful and resilient world. At the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, we remain committed to our mission of preventing and alleviating suffering. But we cannot do it alone. Wars are becoming more brutal, complex, and interconnected, with hybrid methods and global repercussions. Building peace is increasingly challenging, as seen in the lack of new large-scale UN peace operations since 2014 and the breakdown of many international peace processes. To address these issues, the @BKHS.Stiftung and the FESonline undefined established the "Global Expert Group on Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding."
