2 really good lessons from the book "Effortless Mastery" - that are really relevant for sales people - even though the book is written for musicians. (1) Do you care too much? There is a point where you care too much about pleasing the audience. Therefore, it is impossible to create an extraordinary concert experience. I see the exact same thing with sales reps who care so much if the prospect likes or books the meeting with them. You will sound salesy and get even more rejection because of it on the phone or on calls. (2) The root cause of laziness Practising pieces in jazz and classical music is hard, especially if you do it deliberately. He describes how the media (today social media) makes you unfocused and drains all your creative energy. I see that for sure when I shadow sales reps in person and how they go through their day. They start by checking their inbox and going on slack, LinkedIn etc. So what VP Sales sometimes perceive as "laziness" is really being overwhelmed and mentally drained. This is why I recommend to every sales rep: Eat the frog in the morning and produce. (I go into more depth during the video)
