Bio-methanol with negative CO2 emissions from residual forestry biomass gasification: Modelling and techno-economic assessment of different process configurations Apart form process optimizations it is shown that the produced biogenic CO2 can be valorized by: 1. Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) giving rise to Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) credits 2. Carbon dioxide Capture and Utilization (CCU) by adding green hydrogen which substantially improves the methanol yield from biomass. Levelized Costs of Methanol (LCOM) in a range of 600-800euro/ton seem feasible, with increasing carbon taxes/credits this could even be further reduced over time. 🌾💩 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 ⚡ In the HarvRESt project we have identified promising best practices that can be applied either to specific #RES or across systems. Today we take a closer look at biomass 👇. ◼ 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 and 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 can help mitigate financial barriers, promoting collaborative approaches to infrastructure development. ◼ Conducting comprehensive analyses to 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 ensures efficient resource utilization while minimizing environmental trade-offs. ◼ Robust waste and biomass require 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 throughout the production process. ◼ It is also crucial to remain vigilant about potential trade-offs, such as 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 or increased pressure on ecosystems due to intensified agricultural practices. ◼ Regarding the type of bioresources used for bioenergy production, the 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐞𝐬 should be prioritized over the use of primary biomass. Breaking News: ECOSTRAT and NEW ENERGY RISK announce partnership to develop Game-Changing Bioeconomy Solution 🌿 Ecostrat Inc. is thrilled to announce its partnership with New Energy Risk (NER) to develop Feedstock Supply Insurance (FSI) – An insurance offering that aims to mitigate risk in bioenergy projects. Why FSI is a game-changer: - De-risks and stabilizes biomass supply chains - Converts non-investment grade supply chains into bankable, investment grade assets - Transfers risk from project developers to A-rated insurance markets This innovative solution will address the critical barriers that have long stunted investment in bioenergy projects. Want to learn more about FSI and how it could impact your projects? #Statistics for supper - Currently around 14 percent of all #energy used globally comes from #renewable sources. Around 73 percent of that comes from #bioenergy, including liquid transportation fuels and the combustion of municipal solid waste and woodfuel. The consumption of cereals and oilseeds for the production of biofuels has increased, as has the use of biomass as a substitute for petrochemicals. This shift to #bioenergy has implications for agriculture and food production. For example, in aquaculture, which provides more than 50 percent of all fish consumed, oilseeds are becoming a major component of fish feed, and demand for oilseeds will expand as aquaculture production methods continue to intensify. Around two-thirds of the #bioenergy used worldwide involves the traditional burning of wood and other biomass for cooking and heating in low-income countries. As populations expand in these countries, it is expected that the use of these sources of #bioenergy will also increase. Much of this traditional wood #energy is unsustainably produced and inefficiently burned, affecting the health of poor populations and contributing to environmental degradation. #ANOKSResearchReport

🌾 Harvest Update: Grain Harvest Complete, Biomass Next 🌿 As you can see in the picture, now that the grain has been harvested, there’s a significant amount of biomass stalks remaining. These will soon be cut, dried, and baled for further processing. 💪🌱 Hemp’s versatility as a dual-purpose crop allows us to make full use of both the grain and biomass, ensuring the entire plant is utilised. This sustainable approach supports product development across industries—from eco-friendly construction materials to animal care products. 🌿🏗️🐾 By utilising both grain and biomass, and underpinned with Wandarra Pty Ltd “Seed to Success” Trace360™ traceability platform and ThriveTech Pty Ltd™ “Grow Better Now” growth management system, we’re pushing forward in sustainability and efficiency in agriculture and manufacturing. Exciting times ahead! #DualPurposeCrops #HempHarvest #SustainableConstruction #AnimalCare #WholePlantUtilisation #HempInnovation #BiomassToProducts #Wandarra #Trace360 #Thrivetech

In our latest article we share some of the ways we ensure that biomass is sustainably sourced for our bioenergy projects across Africa. These include: 🌲 Only using biomass residues primarily from agricultural and forestry activities; ⛓️ Developing our own local biomass supply chain networks direct to the source to optimise cost, safeguard sustainability, and ensure continuous supply throughout the year; ⚖️ And only using a small portion of available biomass in the vicinity of each project to ensure that supply is not depleted 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e4KrikEJ We provide energy and decarbonisation solutions to Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers across Africa, including bioenergy. 🤝 Get in touch with us to see how we can help you. 🚶➡️ Follow our LinkedIn page for more updates. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Decarbonisation #BECS
