Attention business and product leaders! I invite you to join a bootcamp on Generative AI led by Professor Hamza Farooq. I, along with several others, will also be contributing to the sessions. Why is this important for you? Not long ago, during a tech leaders' roundtable I attended, a compelling case was shared (with permission I share it here) about how a major organization struggles with the slow adoption of Generative AI. The primary bottleneck? Discussions often center on the technological possibilities ("what we CAN do") rather than strategic business applications ("what we SHOULD do" for customer and business benefits). The field of Generative AI is evolving rapidly. Technologies once exclusive to big tech companies a year ago are now accessible to many organizations. Today, not only fine-tuning but also pre-training of these AI models is feasible. We can rigorously evaluate everything from nuanced business-impact metrics to stringent AI safety, compliance, and ethical considerations. Moreover, it's now possible to develop goal-oriented conversational systems that are effective in dialogue yet focused on executing specific objectives—something that was challenging until recently. This evolution from (technology ) CAN to (business and product) SHOULD signifies a pivotal shift. As leaders, gaining a deep understanding of these capabilities will enable you to better align technology with your business needs and strategic objectives. It's crucial to understand what Generative AI is CAPABLE of so that you can leverage your business and product expertise to determine how it SHOULD best serve your business and your customers. Join us to master how technological capabilities can be transformed into strategic business advantages. This understanding is vital for leading in a technology-driven marketplace.

🇺🇲 This week in San Francisco, I presented to 50+ high-profile investors, built 80% of the code that won an AI hackathon and presented at the AI conference, visited 5 AI events, and had several meetings with prospects! I love my life, having so much fun and learning so much (both technically and business-wise). I could write a long post, but here’s the TL;DR. Interested in working together with Generative AI Strategy? Send me a message, and we’ll get things rolling! Back to business, another 5 strategy sessions next week.

How do you build a fully functioning MVP for a complex real-world problem in only three days? 🤔 🎯 That was the ambitious goal for the first internal hackathon. Five self-organizing teams collaborated and competed at the same time, each focusing on a different component of the system. 💡 The solution was truly amazing. A mix of down-to-earth processes and creative state-of-the art methods such as GenAI resulted in a solid framework with inspiring features. A big shout-out to all the employees who contributed to this! 🏆 The prize? First of all it was a great team-building experience with a lot of fun and a lot of learnings for everyone. The winning team received a very special prize in addition: They will be invited to this year’s “The AI Conference” in San Francisco, with all expenses covered. 👉 We’ll have more insights to share soon. #Teamwork #DataScience #AI

I am grateful to NEDs in FS for the privilege to chair this panel discussion. As #AI rapidly advances, financial services boards face critical decisions that extend beyond traditional predictive analytics to generative AI, introducing challenges around intellectual property, transparency, evolving regulation and cybersecurity. Key considerations for #NEDs include: - Stewardship: With rapid AI adoption in the consumer and business spheres, #boards are relied upon for guidance to manage the risks and exploit the opportunities of AI. - AI value chain: Shaping a strategy that leverages both, in-house AI development and external solutions depending on the capabilities and strategic direction of the organisation. - Data: Building the foundations in data governance to support the organisation’s AI strategy. - Ethics: Ensuring AI practices align with ethical standards, especially as AI integrates into decision-making. - Humility: Fostering a culture where executives and non-executives interact without fear and are encouraged to continuously learn and stay informed on AI advancements. - Compliance: Proactively preparing for evolving regulations in this space. By prioritizing these areas, boards can guide organizations to leverage AI’s potential while managing risks effectively in a fast-evolving landscape. My wonderful panelists provided plenty of practical insights and good practices: Alla Bashenko Carlos Pereira (he/him), FIP Susanne Chishti Thank you to Ben Blackett-Ord for bringing us together and Josh Emerson for sharing his notes with me.
So much knowledge shared at last night's discussion on AI. But perhaps the most important point was the need for non-execs to be humble. And acknowledge what we don't know to start the right conversation. Huge thanks to Susanne Alfs, Susanne Chishti Alla Bashenko and Carlos Pereira for being such an interesting panel, to everyone who contributed and, of course, to Peter Allen and the team at RSM for hosting.
