How do you want your little players to feel when they wake up today? 😟 OR 😊 It's (at present) a beautiful fresh, dry Sunday morning here in Scotland, and right now kids up and down the country are getting ready to head out to play their sport on a match day. Too many of these kids would be happy for their game to be called off. Too many are looking forward to the end more than the start. Match days are very anxious events for young children. As coaches we can't always take this away, nor should we as dealing with nerves is but one of the major life lessons that comes out of sport. But make sure your kids are nervous for the right reasons, and not: - Because you might yell - Because they feel alone in the team - Because everything is about winning - Because mistakes are forbidden We can't make every player love match days, but we definitely can make them hate them if we're not careful and aware of our influence. #coacheducation #reflection

In Give Sport Back To The Kids, Matt Young explains how parents, coaches and administrators have contributed to the 70% attrition rate among the 40 million North American kids who register to play a sport each year. By transforming the joy of playing sport into the chore of working sport, kids have responded to the adult-induced pressures, demands and abuse by dropping out of sport in droves. Many kids have chosen sedentary lifestyles that are negatively affecting their physical, mental and social development. Matt’s idea-worth-spreading is that we must stop this mass exodus by kids from sports by putting their wants and needs before those of adults. https://lnkd.in/efN6ydte

#Mondaymotivation and #inspiration from Julia Wy and Becky #inspireothers “…if you decide deliberately what you want to take the extra step for, you will be wildly successful. And it's just an extra step.” What will you take an extra step on this week? For me, this is the hallmark of a Becky Daniels’ post; an important lesson, simply taught, so you remember it, and often with lots of humor too! #winwinwin, win! Everyone, please have a great week! 😀 #keeplearningkeepgrowing 🦉 💪 🚀 #Mondayreminder "Almost everything that matters most to us in life will require us to take the extra step." Wow! A day without learning from a Becky Daniels’ post is a day lost. #truth Becky (Arnold) Daniels | Daniels Business Solutions, LLC | Helps business owners build GROWING and MORE PROFITABLE businesses by finding the exact next steps to take to reach their cash flow goals! | Chattanooga, TN #mindsetmonday #mindsetmatters #mindsetforsuccess #motivationalmonday #motivation #inspirational #grit
Helps business owners build GROWING and MORE PROFITABLE businesses by finding the exact next steps to take to reach their cash flow goals!
Last Thursday after soccer practice, Julia Wy said, "I feel like this was my best practice ever." I asked her why, and she said, "I just felt like I was taking an extra step. I think maybe that if I want to move up, I will need to be taking an extra step." I replied to her, "almost everything that matters most to us in life will require us to take the extra step." She went on to her tournament this weekend which her coach told her was the very best he had ever seen her play. I asked her why she was so much better this weekend. "Because every chance I could I took the extra step." And I can't stop thinking about this. It occurs to me that if you ALWAYS IN EVERYTHING take the extra step, you will get burned out and resentful. But if you decide deliberately what you want to take the extra step for, you will be wildly successful. And it's just an extra step. What will you take an extra step on this week?

*I normally don't post pics of me with players, but a parent sent this! If you know me you know I have little patience for adults and their nonsense. However, kids are different my player was upset and starting to get frustrated that his team was losing, and as a coach in that moment it became my job to remind him, it's just a game and we are all learning. #youthsports #youthsportscoaching #youthsportsreform #youthsportsparent #youthsportsadvocate #youthsportscoach #youthsportsenjoyment #youthsportsretention

Want to encourage a lifelong love of sport? It all starts with play 🤸 According to Sport England's recent Active Lives survey, children cite 'fun' as their primary reason for taking part in sport and physical activity. Often the reason children and young people fall out of love with sport can relate to sessions being too serious with a heavy emphasis on skills and competitive success. Addressing these barriers requires more focus on holistic well-being and development, including supporting young people to have the freedom to develop on their terms.
