Are You Missing Out on Deducting Travel Expenses? Losing out on some serious savings... Here’s how to make sure you’re maximizing those travel deductions: Business Travel: Expenses like flights, hotels, and transportation for business purposes are still fully deductible. Keep those receipts organized! Entertainment: Since the TCJA reforms, taking clients to games or concerts is no longer deductible. But don’t worry—there are still ways to save. Pro tip: Business meals during travel or client meetings are still 50% deductible—just make sure to separate them from entertainment costs! Also, certain employee meals at events can be 100% deductible. But... Clear documentation is key. Combining meals and entertainment can lead to issues with the IRS, so keep them separate. When planned correctly, you can maximize the tax benefits of all your short business trips by making them fully deductible, especially if you extend your stay over the weekend. To turn your weekend getaways into tax-deductible trips, consider using a smart strategy called "wrapping a weekend." According to the IRS, if you combine business travel with work on both Friday and the following Monday, the Saturday and Sunday in between can be considered business days. This allows you to deduct your hotel expenses and meals during that weekend. While in the past, entertainment expenses were also deductible, this option is no longer available after the elimination of the entertainment expense deduction. Nevertheless, being able to deduct hotel costs and meals can still provide a nice saving on your weekend escape! Just remember to keep detailed records of your business activities on both Friday and Monday to support your claims. #taxstrategy #taxeducation #p3accounting #oklahomabusiness #oklahomaentrepreneurs #oklahomasmallbusiness #okcentrepreneurs #taxexperts
