🗳️ Why This Election Matters for Single Mothers by Choice 🗳️ As a Single Mother by Choice, I know the journey to parenthood isn’t always straightforward. For many of us, IVF and fertility treatments have made it possible to build our families, our way. But the freedom to choose this path isn’t guaranteed—it depends on leadership that respects reproductive rights and embraces family diversity. Kamala Harris has been a consistent advocate for reproductive freedom, including our right to access IVF and fertility treatments. Her vision protects our ability to build families in ways that best suit our circumstances and values. To me, this isn’t just about medical freedom; it’s about honoring the right to create families on our own terms. Yes, I’m being so bold as to publicly advocate for a candidate on a professional network. As single mothers by choice, many of us share the desire to protect our reproductive freedom and the rights that allowed us to have our children. I’ll be clear: I will NEVER support a party or candidate that seeks to curtail my reproductive rights and would have made having my son impossible. While I aim to connect with single mothers by choice and aspiring SMBCs everywhere and my work as a nonprofit/social impact consultant is global, I’m also a U.S. citizen. For me, this election is a do-or-die moment, a time to vote for leaders who champion our right to make the personal, powerful choice of motherhood, in the way that is best for us. This article sheds light on the attack on reproductive rights in New Jersey. The state has one of the highest abortion rates in the nation, with 29.2 abortions per 1,000 women, which is more than twice the national rate of 14.4. The Attorney General is making efforts to obstruct women from accessing essential resources and is criticizing volunteers who aim to support pregnant women and new mothers who provide women with the choice to become parents instead of opting for abortion. Additionally, Rep. Gotthemer is complicit in denying women their right to choose by obstructing access to facilities that offer support, and by discouraging pregnant women from seeking assistance. This act is comparable to blocking access to a food pantry and dissuading food-insecure individuals from obtaining nourishment. It is nonsensical. While California has strong legal protections for reproductive rights, access to quality unbiased care continues to be inequitable, with Black women making up 5% of pregnant patients but accounting for 21% of pregnancy-related deaths in the state. Assembly Bill 2319 aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate among Black women and pregnant people by ensuring the successful implementation of the California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act of 2019 (which Reproductive Freedom for All California sponsored) and strengthening implicit bias training. https://lnkd.in/g-UEEz-b
