For those new to Marmalade and wondering what on earth we do... 👀 👇 Each year, we at the The Old Fire Station, Oxford produce the Marmalade Festival in partnership with Skoll World Forum / Skoll Foundation. Our aim is to help connect people from around the world with global/local, strategic/grassroots perspectives. Our focus is systems change through the lens of people, power and place. Over the years we have welcomed thousands to explore sessions ranging from interactive workshops to film screenings, networking events to campaign launches. Themes tend to be about the big issues facing our planet: climate, social justice, big tech, colonial legacy, impact measurement, funding and power. Marmalade has become a destination event with deep local roots and a global reputation. It is a warm space for people doing good locally, nationally and internationally to share ideas and find support and encouragement. We can't wait to welcome your applications to host a session... True change stems from forging genuine human connections, which begin with our own self-awareness. By fostering trust, connection and honesty, we can dismantle the internalized barriers that divide us to unlock our potential, both as individuals and as a global community. This International Human Solidarity Day, consider reaching out to one of our favorite partners: The Human Solidarity Project. Their workshops and online courses will leave you feeling motivated, inspired and energized to transform yourself and your human connections. #HumanSolidarity #InternationalHumanSolidarityDay #HumanSolidarityProject #HumanConnection #SelfAwareness

As a big fan of measuring impact in a way that matches the people you help, this is a fantastic way to showcase Fito Network 🧩 joyful work! I am currently reading Data Feminism by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren Klein who describe 'data visceralisation' which embraces not just visualisation of data, but also how we feel about it. Well done Brendon “Brendoni” Johnson 🕺🏻 and Beverly Ndege and the team for showing this in practice! It is possible for organisations to think more outside the box when it comes to impact measurement and showcasing it in a more innovative way. Can't wait to see more of this! #data #impactreport #impactmeasurement #datavisualisation #impact

I am really pleased to be back the Festival of Place (https://lnkd.in/e6aR3j59) this year. This year I am going to be running a workshop called: Unlearning Surveys. 75% of research methods used with young people from 2015 to 2020 in the UK have been ‘traditional’ (interviews, surveys and focus groups) which we argue do not value this group’s strengths. We will give an overview of our method which focuses on peer research with young women – notably the researcher-in-residence model – and subsequently go on to discuss two central aspects: (un)learning and visual methods. We argue that such approaches contrast traditional methods of doing research with young people (e.g. surveying), by giving us ways of exploring the banality (eg. benches) and complexity (sexual harassment) of young women’s experiences of the public realm; and by allowing research participants to have greater agency in representing their own lifeworlds. It is our view that this methodology makes the case for why it is essential to value the tacit knowledge that young women and girls have in attentive and meaningful ways if we are to create a truly inclusive public realm. I will be joined by Susannah from Make Space for Girls who have partnered us on this work.
