Why Mosaics? Growing up, art and dance was my life! I studied movement, drawing, watercolor, oils and metal design. I became intrigued with stained glass after reading about Tiffany and seeing the magnificent windows he designed. Glass is much like watercolors, with light streaming through colored glass and bevels. After ten years of stained glass work, I began cutting and nipping tiles; incorporating the square textured mosaic tiles into my work. My designs now are an evolution of glass tiles, mini-tiles, enameled glass on copper and stained glass. I love defining the organic shapes of the glass by creating architectural borders and patterns with the square tiles. Mosaic art is a centuries-old tradition that requires precision, patience, and a keen eye for design. By supporting local artisans and craftsmen like myself, you're helping to preserve this time-honored art form for future generations to enjoy.

The art of gold leafing, an ancient practice dating back thousands of years, embodies the exquisite craftsmanship and timeless elegance of gilding surfaces with delicate layers of pure gold. This meticulous technique involves applying ultra-thin sheets of gold leaf to various substrates, transforming ordinary objects into glistening masterpieces. One of the key techniques in gold leafing involves meticulously preparing the surface to ensure optimal adhesion and smoothness. Craftsmen often apply a base coat of adhesive, known as gesso or sizing, which acts as a bond between the surface and the gold leaf. Once the surface is properly primed, artisans delicately transfer the fragile gold leaf onto the prepared area using specialized tools such as gilder's tips or brushes. Gold leafing finds its place in a wide array of decorative arts, ranging from ornate furniture and picture frames to intricate sculptures and architectural embellishments. Its luminous finish and luxurious appearance have made it a favored medium for adorning religious artifacts, such as altarpieces and sacred icons, adding a celestial glow to sacred spaces and evoking a sense of divine splendor. Moreover, gold leafing plays a crucial role in the restoration and preservation of historical treasures, breathing new life into aging artworks and architectural elements. Skilled conservators employ traditional gilding techniques to repair and rejuvenate gilded surfaces, ensuring that the rich heritage and intricate detailing of these cultural treasures endure for future generations to admire and appreciate.

Calligraffiti as a decorative interior "graffiti" Graffiti is often associated with vandalism, but not always rightly so, as there are examples that go beyond mere defacement—some works are visually appealing. Over time, street graffiti has made its way into pop culture and, consequently, into the mainstream art world. In contrast, calligraphy has long been recognized as the art of beautiful writing and has never had to prove its value. The combination of calligraphy and graffiti, known as "calligraffiti," was inevitable. As a great fan of both calligraphy and graffiti, I couldn’t resist trying my hand at a design that incorporated calligraffiti. In the attached project, a modern interior is decorated with a historic ceiling and an inscription in Gothic lettering.

This technique requires #skills and #competence on the part of experienced marble masons, as it is necessary to work the surfaces carefully to achieve the desired effect. There are several main methods for antiquing marble: 1️⃣ Burring: Uses special machinery called ‘tumblers’, which consume the marble with mechanical movements and abrasive chemical mixtures. This is followed by polishing and protection with special products. 2️⃣ Brushing: Uses abrasive brushes to make the surface satin-finished, accentuating differences in pigmentation and giving it a worn appearance. 3️⃣ Sandblasting and acid-etching: This technique combines the use of a portable sandblaster with the application of chemical acid for an “orange peel” effect, enhancing pigmentation and an antique look. 4️⃣ Mixed techniques: Combines several techniques such as brushing and bush-hammering to achieve an eroded and time-worn effect.
