Fall is a great time to enjoy the great outdoors, but thunderstorms can strike at a moment's notice. Plan ahead and stay safe with these tips from NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. • Schedule day hikes or other activities to avoid times when thunderstorms are possible (which typically form in the late afternoon). • Identify locations with adequate shelter and reduced exposure to lightning. • Keep a close watch of the sky and look for those towering clouds bubbling upward. These can be thunderstorms forming. #thunder #lightning #thunderstorm #greatoutdoors #outdoorsafety

As the article headline suggests, there may be no simple answers for space debris mitigation, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t answers and technologies on the way. One company that Tropical Weather Analytics, Inc. have started to work closely with has a 3-fold strategy to reducing #spacejunk. Orbotic Systems Inc is not just trying to reduce space debris at the source (reliable deorbit) but also has an in-situ space weather sensor and a space junk removal system in the works. What does space weather have to do with space junk? If you know, you know. I agree with this article that there are no “simple answers” but I believe there are options out there for sustainable space. https://lnkd.in/eAXCtS8D

Does the European Space Agency - ESA have all the "cool" satellite missions? Bad pun intended but that don't let that diminish your excitement for this Arctic mission. If ESA's wind sat mission, Aeolus slipped under your radar, go check it out. Meteorologists are looking forward to this one almost as much as they did Aeolus. This is a pretty big deal for advancing weather forecast capabilities. As you may know, Tropical Weather Analytics, Inc.'s Hurricane Hunter Satellites will be in a polar orbit and collect 3D wind data as well as cloud altitudes, heights, and imagery. When we are not measuring clouds, we will collect high-resolution, sea ice imagery in 3D. The poles will be a lot less mysterious in the coming years and these upcoming satellite mission will significantly improve weather forecasts. #climatechange #weather #arctic #weathersatellite #WhatHappensAtThePolesDoesntStayAtThePoles www.weathersats.com
🛰️ 🧊 #ESA’ s Arctic Weather Satellite has passed its environmental test campaign with flying colours – meaning that the satellite has been declared fit for liftoff and its life in the harsh environment of space. This new satellite, which is slated for launch in June, has been designed to show how it can improve weather forecasts in the #Arctic – a region that currently lacks data for accurate short-term forecasts 👉https://lnkd.in/epbqDn5w

Discover the dangers of #desertdust to aircraft engines on the International Day for Combating #Sand and #Dust Storms. 🌪Kudos to Dr. Claire Ryder, Mark Parrington, our team members and all the experts who contributed to this research. 👏
"Dust and #sand are dangerous to aircrafts because #dust melts to form glassy deposits on blades or hard mineral crusts inside engines. These crusts disrupt airflow and cause overheating, resulting in accelerated engine wear,” explains Dr. Claire Ryder, lead author in a new insightful article featuring our experts at AtmoHub, which sheds light on the significant risks that #desertdust poses to aircraft engines. 🌪️✈️ On the International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms, we are proud to spotlight this critical research. 📌The study uses 17 years of Copernicus ECMWF atmospheric data, #CALIPSO satellite data and the NOA - ReACT #LIVAS Climate Data Record, to calculate the quantity of sand and dust swallowed by jet engines at ten major international airports, located in desert regions or subjected to seasonal dust storms.📊🌍 📌Dr. Claire Ryder, Associate Professor from the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading together with Mark P. from #ECMWF, our team members Vassilis Amiridis, Eleni Marinou, and Emmanouil Proestakis and other scientists, have discovered how to minimize the damage caused by engine dust and propose ways to more accurately estimate dust-induced engine wear.🛠️🔥 Read the full study here: https://bit.ly/3WgJdMm *AtmoHub, the hub dedicated to bringing you the most accurate data on air quality information in Greece, has been monitoring dust transport episodes since its launch. Our team of experts is constantly working to provide you with the latest information on atmospheric composition, making atmospheric monitoring accessible and impactful, and helping national authorities and relevant stakeholders take proactive measures to protect public health. 🌬️🛡️ #SDSDay
