📅Save the date! February 4th 2025 17:00-19:00 GMT Online We are delighted to host Jessica Pryce-Jones and Christian Busch , in conversation with Stephan Chambers to discuss Jess’ new book: Intuition at Work: Using your Gut Feelings to Get Ahead! In today’s business landscape, data-driven strategies dominate the decision-making process, and quite rightly. Unfortunately, relying only on spreadsheets and analysis limits everyone’s thinking when it comes to generating new ideas, navigating uncertainty, and reacting in a crisis or in times that demand quick, accurate decisions in a fast-moving context. That’s when intuition is such an invaluable tool because it captures the full value, subtlety and range of human experience, something which AI or algorithms can never do. There’s plenty of solid research which shows that when leaders use intuition, they make better strategic decisions; problem-solve more effectively; assess and analyse risks better; and make more effective hires, to name a few critical activities. In essence, intuition helps to cut through to better outcomes and, just as importantly, stops people from selecting worse ones. 🔗 Join us online by registering here: https://lnkd.in/ef2v4CEw

After many early mornings and late nights of editing, formatting and rewriting...I finally submitted the completed version of #humAIn to my superstar publisher Andrew Priestley. It's in his hands now. Here's what real humans have been saying... “Scared of AI? Excited? Not Sure? What if there was a book that cut through the clutter and made it digestible for the rest of us.” Duncan Wardle "This book is essential for leaders committed to innovation while maintaining a deeply human approach to business.” Garry Ridge "Amidst all of the dystopian doom and gloomers, Dave offers a much more optimistic path for businesses that will embrace the future and leverage it for all of our advantages.” Daren Martin "As someone deeply involved in innovation and entrepreneurship, I find this book an essential read for anyone looking to lead with both cutting-edge insight and heartfelt humanity.” Jeff Hoffman "As a high-performance psychologist, I am ready to get my AI on and help my clients create workplaces that celebrate being radically human.” Vanessa Vershaw "humAIn is a must-read for anyone either interested or concerned about the future of AI. The key is creating a culture where people are valued for their humanity, creativity, and ability to think critically." This book isn’t just about AI and its transformative powers. It is about the complexities involved in achieving such transformations. There are five parts to the book: Human Intelligence Machine Intelligence Organizational Intelligence Competitive Intelligence Political Intelligence Everything will seem like it happens at once. And it is because we will always live in a world of competitive threats from business to business and on a geopolitical level. It has taken me over a year to write this book, and here’s why. Even if AI were to stop its evolution here at its current development, there is enough innovation at this point to cause massive revolutions in how we compete, serve, and deliver innovations. I could have released it six months ago. However, I realized that anyone trying to get ahead of this curve will be behind. I’ve listened to many experts and attended many conferences I can tell you that it keeps changing and advancing. I don’t mince my words in this book. You will find parts of it entertaining as you read about our human past. Some of the prospects our quest for intelligence will create will either inspire you or worry you. Then, there is the geopolitical and economic aspect of this technology. Is it an equalizer and peacemaker or another threat? What makes this book different? I am not focused on what AI is or why we need to pursue it. I am focused on how you need to think and work at deploying and evolving with this technology. How is the most important question every executive and board member must ask? #retailing #strategy #ceo #technology #innovation #management

As the Southern Hemisphere summer is upon us, I am gearing to spend the next couple of weeks working on a book entitled "Competing in the Age of GenAI Disruption." So, why write this book? The book addresses a critical conundrum facing the GenAI revolution today: despite capital investments of over $1.4 trillion, the annual revenue needed to justify this investment—$600 billion—remains a distant goal. Why is this happening? Why is the economic potential of GenAI not being fully realized? This book offers a contrarian perspective: the primary issue lies in the dominant focus on “data-led decisions” or “decisions-led data.” While these approaches are valuable, they miss the bigger picture. The real game-changer is monetizing data—unlocking its true value by innovating how organizations turn data into sustainable revenue streams. Drawing on insights from academia, industry, and my experiences with AI-driven innovation, more importantly from thousands of students who have taken my courses on AI and NPD, this book responds to this pressing need by presenting actionable strategies for organizations to thrive in the GenAI era. However, the release of this book will be different in every possible “Academic” way as, true to my roots, it is primarily being written for executives. Watch this space as I make progress on this exciting project in the coming weeks. #innovation #GenAI #Disruption #LeadershipwithAI

Loved all the insight in this article and will be using for class discussion in the future! #internationalbusiness #internationalstudies #strategicmanagement #highereducation
Our paper on the future of #global #strategy was the top downloaded #article from the Global Strategy Journal published by The Strategic Management Society. "Global strategy, that is, the analysis of strategy in an international context, has co-evolved with the dramatic changes in the global economy in the 21st century. Research advances have enabled a more sophisticated understanding of how firms develop strategies in an increasingly turbulent global environment in which societal expectations, technological advances, and political decisions are all in a state of continuous change. In this article, we reflect on and provide suggestions for how the field may evolve on five key themes of global strategy: #cooperation, coordination, #governance, #politics, and #innovation. We also outline suggestions for future research on global issues that are gaining increasing centrality in business decisions: #climatechange, artificial intelligence (#ai), and #geopolitics." Thanks, as always, to my wonderful co-authors, Gabriel R.G. Benito, Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, Torben Pedersen, and Steve Tallman. The article is available here - https://lnkd.in/ezgsgG83

"...asking better questions, not just writing better prompts". Thank you, Hilton Barbour for emphasizing the importance of better questions in this era of AI with easy answers. You're so right saying that "questions are going to be the mechanism to unlock #creativity and #innovation." 💪💪💪💪 I also appreciate that the Harvard Business Review recognises that the best questions in an organization may be the ones that often go unasked. A few lines before, it says leaders must be attentive to avoid sensitive topics... This got me thinking. It is the scope of the last component of their framework, the "subjective questions". Is this really solved with questions? Probably not without a very human leadership in my opinion. "It’s not a matter of asking lots of questions in hopes of eventually hitting on the right ones." I highlight this statement for my part. Their practical framework of questions investigative-speculative-productive-interpretive-subjective is definitively worthwhile, I have no doubt. But I would say it might miss something related to completeness. This is the "Collective Exhaustive" part of the beloved #MECE principle of the #McKinsey folks. How do you ensure you will provide this "big picture" going through the framework? Is a standardized approach feasible? I don't have an answer, unfortunately. My method is intuitive and based on feeling. Faced with the uncertainty of a task, I imagine myself in a sort of dark cave, lighting torches by answering a set of diverse questions. These questions must be based on availability in terms of information/knowledge, while being as speculative as possible. Obviously, knowledge scope is both the acquired and the potential through #continuouslearning. I don't attempt to meticulously illuminate every corner of the cave, but rather aim to sense its boundaries. Once I have this feeling in a reasonable time, I am generally capable of defending a proposed solution, showing a feasible path, while revealing some potential potholes. Obviously, if it appears useful, I will have dug deeper into certain aspects. This is then refined through fruitful debates with peers. No, this is definitively not a scientific methodology, even if the outputs will be as rational as possible. But is there really a systematic method to move forward in the unknown? I suspect there will be always a part of feeling, i.e. subjectivity in problem solving, even with a practical framework made of diverse questions. This reminds me this irresolvable "disconnection between the observers and the observed fueling a crisis of meaning today". (https://lnkd.in/d6Ah9vKT) More questions than answers, but isn't that the journey? 😁 Feel free to share your insights or approaches—I'm eager to explore different viewpoints and learn from diverse perspectives! (original article also in the first comment!)
SMART QUESTIONS & BLIND SPOTS - AI is creating a world where "answers are easy" meaning that #growth is going to come from asking better questions, not just writing better prompts. Questions are going to be the mechanism to unlock #creativity and #innovation. I take some pride in my curiosity but this Harvard Business Review article is just sublime in laying out the art of asking better questions. Interestingly the authors recognize that often the best questions are the one's an organization DOESN'T want to ask or the #culture is afraid to raise. "The questions that get leaders and teams into trouble are often the ones they fail to ask. These are questions that don’t come spontaneously; they require prompting and conscious effort. They may run counter to your and your team’s individual or collective habits, preoccupations, and patterns of interaction." Article link in the 1st comment.
