"Khwaab bikharte hain, har hafte unhein dobara uthana padta hai..." Every week, I find myself waiting for Saturday and Sunday, the only days I can work on the things I truly admire. I'm in law school, but the moment I step into college, my mind feels empty, as if my ambitions and dreams are fading. It’s on the weekends that I try to revive them, studying in a way that feels right to me, not in the way that works for the other 80 students in the class. The classes are filled with endless noise, constant talking without much thought. In these five days, I accomplish far less than I do in just two weekends. If you’re only looking to study law for the title of 'lawyer,' to be known as one without caring for the depth of the subject, then college might work just fine. But if you truly want to understand the intricacies of law, to immerse yourself in what you don’t yet know, you need to explore this field on your own. Seek out real mentors, professionals who live and breathe the law. Connect with other law students, not just from your country but from around the world, and learn their systems. File RTIs, complaints, FIRs. Help those in need by solving their legal issues, or at least try to understand their struggles. Most importantly, think about your own challenges. Write down the problems and solutions that cross your mind. These steps will guide you toward greatness in this field. Especially if you’re studying in a Tier 3 college, be cautious. These institutions can dull your ambitions and mold you into someone who doesn't think, but merely acts in the direction set by others. Don’t let that happen to you. Greetings Connections, I am overjoyed to share that my team, comprising Vasuki Koul and Priya Raj Bhaura, has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming semifinalists in the 24th National Moot Court Competition hosted by Manikchand Pahade Law College, Sambhajinagar. This competition marked our inaugural foray into the world of moot court, and the journey has been nothing short of exhilarating. Participating in this competition has been an invaluable learning experience, allowing us to hone our advocacy skills, deepen our understanding of legal principles, and cultivate invaluable teamwork abilities. Each round presented unique challenges that pushed us to think critically, research meticulously, and articulate persuasively, ultimately contributing to our personal and professional growth. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our seniors, Rasleen Kaur and Qazi Ahmad, whose guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping our journey. Their unwavering support, insightful advice, and encouragement have been the cornerstone of our success, and we are deeply grateful for their invaluable contributions. If only duration was the issue! Concern with legal education today is not the time spent in learning it, but the curriculum of the same. Legal education should be focussed more on creating industry ready candidates. Theoretical knowledge is of no use if you do not know how to apply it.

Should the five-year law degree be reduced to a shorter duration? Prof. Dr. Ashish Bharadwaj, Dean of #BITSLawSchool, believes that “Five years is certainly a protracted period. Student learning has become fast-paced across disciplines, law included.” He highlights the challenges students face compared to other disciplines and emphasizes the need to reconsider the programmes length to align with modern educational trends. Professor Bharadwaj emphasises that comprehensive law programmes starting after Grade 12 can feasibly achieve all educational objectives in less than five years, while maintaining a robust curriculum, providing practical training, and ensuring students are prepared to succeed as lawyers.
