I wanted to launch a business years ago. But I’m so glad I waited. I didn't realise it then. But I wasn’t ready. Being a sales leader and having 10+ years of VP experience everyday has been so important for me. And I’m a much better entrepreneur because of it. And I have to admit that I took for granted lots of the learnings VP Sales roles at the time. The most important learnings were: - How to build structure - The ability to get executive buy in - Knowing how to build repeatability - Skills needed to build a GTM motion - How to be a leader - Time/task management (underrated!) On top of that, and what I underestimated at the most at the time, was the domain experience I was gaining. The domain experience that Cosmic has been built on, it’s now part of our IP! It enables us to win new business in a competitive market. And we win business by bringing real value to the table. We recently interviewed all our clients at Cosmic Partners and one of the biggest reasons they decided to work with us was because of our domain experience. The foundation of a pyramid needs to be strong, if it is solid, you can build as tall pyramid. In sales you need to master the daily rigor it takes to be successful, and once you master that, you will start to master the closing. A successful team can't just have 1 strong performer and everyone else struggling. A leader needs to look at the team performance, and if the leader is sharing what works for them, then your pyramid has a small foundation that is weak to build from.
