Joyful Throughout His Life! Jimmy Carter was a joyful person throughout his entire life. In his early years, he served in the Navy, ran family businesses, elected State Senator & Governor of Georgia. While President of the United States, he sought peace. President Carter championed a peace accord between Egypt and Israeli, signed a treaty with the former Soviet Union and established diplomatic relations with China. Most people would have sat back and retired. Not Jimmy Carter. His "Second Act" was equally as impactful. Until 2020, Jimmy and and his wife Rosalynn volunteered one week a year for Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that helps needy people in the United States and in other countries renovate and build homes for themselves. He also taught Sunday school in the Maranatha Baptist Church of Plains. Jimmy Carter entered Hospice care over a year ago. His example of how Hospice Care can be a valuable life resource for people in the later years inspired thousands of others to seek out Hospice Care for a loved one. RIP - Jimmy Carter. Thank you for living joyfully throughout your years! #jimmycarter #hospice #hospicecare #homecare #joy

Five ways to honor and remember this Memorial Day weekend. #memorialday2024 Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the men and women who have died in military service to the United States. Here are five meaningful ways to remember and honor them during Memorial Day weekend: 🇺🇸 Visit a Cemetery or Memorial: Pay your respects by visiting a local cemetery or a national memorial site. Lay flowers or flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. National cemeteries often have ceremonies or volunteer opportunities to place flags on graves. 🇺🇸 Attend a Memorial Day Ceremony or Parade: Participate in local ceremonies or parades dedicated to honoring fallen soldiers. Many communities host events that include speeches, moments of silence, and tributes to veterans. 🇺🇸 Support Veterans and Military Families: Reach out to local veteran organizations to see how you can support veterans and their families. This could include volunteering, making donations, or participating in fundraising events. 🇺🇸 Educate Yourself and Others: Take time to learn about the history and significance of Memorial Day. Share this knowledge with family and friends. Reading books, watching documentaries, or visiting museums dedicated to military history can be enlightening and respectful ways to remember. 🇺🇸 Hold a Moment of Silence: At 3 PM local time on Memorial Day, observe the National Moment of Remembrance. Pause for one minute to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel. This small but significant gesture helps to honor those who have served and lost their lives. #weekendwisdom #thankyou #motivation

Memorial Day was first designated as Decoration Day in 1868 to honour the fallen soldiers of the Civil War on BOTH sides - Union AND Confederate. It wasn’t made an official holiday though until 1971. Now we acknowledge this special day in the US solely to commemorate those soldiers who have fallen in service to the country in any conflict around the world. Did you know there are certain things you are not supposed to do on Memorial Day? The first and perhaps most important thing is NOT to wish anyone a Happy Memorial Day. It’s not a happy day or a happy holiday. It’s a special day where we recognize the ultimate sacrifice of someone in service to the country. Secondly, you don’t thank a working military person for their service. Again, this day is for fallen soldiers. But you can find ways to recognize the day and remember its true meaning. 🎇Go to a parade if your town has one. 🏛️Visit the Capitol (in person or virtually at Capital.gov). 🎗️Do something for the Armed Services like send care packages or donate to a cause that is important to the Armed Services. 🤫Take a moment of silence at 3pm local time - this is a national initiative. 👨🏻👩🏾👧🏼👦🏽And of course, have picnics or go to the beach with your family to celebrate the freedoms that the fallen have fought for. Whatever you do today, take a moment to remember the meaning of this very special day to honour and remember those who died serving the USA. Have a very special Memorial Day. #FourSquareMindfulness #MemorialDay #MemorialDay2024 #WeRemember #RememberTheFallen #remember #thankful #mindfulness #meditation #MindfulMeditation #gratitude #JustBreathe #LoveIsAVerb #LoveIsActivism #LoveLearningLiberation #DiversityIsOurStrength Photo by Wesley Tingey on Unsplash

Military children are often the ones who make sacrifices alongside their parents. They adapt to frequent moves, change schools, and sometimes face long separations from loved ones. Their resilience, strength, and unwavering support for their families inspire us all. Homes for Heroes acknowledges their unique experiences and contributions. Here are ways we can all work to uplift their spirits and let them know they are valued and appreciated: Personalized Gifts: Consider giving military children personalized gifts such as books, art supplies, or custom-made items that celebrate their bravery and strength. Recognition Events: Organize or attend local events where military children can be publicly recognized and appreciated for their sacrifices and achievements. Volunteer Support: Offer your time and resources to support military families in your community. Whether it’s tutoring, mentorship, or simply lending a listening ear, your efforts can make a difference. Storytelling: Share the stories of military children and their experiences. Amplifying their voices helps us understand their journeys and the challenges they face. Let’s come together to celebrate these remarkable young people and show them our gratitude for their courage and resilience. Thank you to all military children and their families for your service and sacrifices! 🇺🇸 #HomesforHeroes #MilitaryChildren #ThankYou

The 80th anniversary of D-Day has personal meaning for countless people around the world. For me, I think about my father's family fleeing the Nazi Holocaust; about my great-grandparents who died in the camps; about the soldiers who went to war to fight this monstrous, inhuman tyranny; about the citizens and communities who supported the war effort back home; and about the leaders who stood strong in the face of aggression. This day is not just about history. As surviving veterans and democratic leaders wisely remind us this week, the defence of democracy must be a preoccupation of the present. It's astonishing that any politician in any major democracy would dispute the urgency of giving #Ukraine the means to defend itself - or investing in defence and deterrence, or keeping our solemn commitments to our NATO allies. Or that some would admire, defend or collude with hostile foreign powers bent on destabilizing democracies. It's equally astonishing that any citizen of good character would consider electing authoritarian populist strongmen (yes, they are almost always male) who would tear down the institutions that allowed democracy to take root widely and thrive in the decades following the war we remember today. With democratic values under threat all over the world, this day matters not just to the millions of families touched by its history; it matters to billions more -- to every citizen of every democracy, everywhere. #lestweforget #democracy #DDay

We remember all who served, volunteered, and died in war, conflict, and peacekeeping. We thank them for their service and reflect on their sacrifice. This Anzac Day, we highlight the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Thank you to the Deadly Story website for the below excerpts: “Our mob fought in large numbers during the World Wars, despite the fact that they were legally barred from serving. “A strong motivator for many was the promise of fair treatment and equality whilst in the armed forces." Racism still existed in the armed forces. But many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers have said they were treated better. In World War II, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people were also promised full citizenship rights on their return. When they returned, they "found the same and in some cases worse discrimination, colonisation and injustice as when they’d left". Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people were not respected as veterans. They did not have their contributions recognised. "Recently, through the tireless work of families of service people and others, there has been more recognition of the contributions and bravery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the military." Adelaide unveiled the first memorial for Aboriginal soldiers in 2013. There are also memorials in Warrnambool and Mildura. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gzc43S4r #LestWeForget #Reconciliation

The United States Marine Corps Commandant, General Eric Smith, presented a great civilian model for #resilience. Great meeting and perfect timing with #IndependenceDay. What will help America move forward and stay ahead? It’s not a “me” mentality on how much can I make, how much can I sell, how much can I buy. General Smith made this abundantly clear immediately as well as wove it through his presentation and answers to questions. Our nation has acted with collaboration in times of #disaster. Post #Hurricane Katrina, the nation (and world) came to the aid of the City of New Orleans to rebuild and renew. How did that happen? People #respond to what matters to them. Though the greater #community deployed with a nation of #service mentality – it’s not just #ArmedForces or #FirstResponders. While we need those who answer that call on a 24/7/365 basis, we need to have everyone thinking about others every day. It can be small as in a small act of kindness – sharing an explanation to a neighbor child on your expertise, giving your old books for a non-profit sale that supports their mission, dedicating time to feed the hungry at an outreach event. (See the trend: in no way is it all about the Benjamins – aka money for my non-American network.) #ForceDesign has many meanings – words are important. It’s how you integrate with others that makes the whole #stronger. While we each have special talents, another recent LinkedIn post about hope used the phrase “it’s a belief in all of us over none of us.” (Amen, Misaha Suzuki Graham.) Another post discussed overcoming horrible circumstances and coming back together “trying different methods and approaches.” (Inspiration and eloquence while recognizing historical pain, Van Jones.) How do you give strength to what makes America different from all other nations and distinguishes our democracy from other models? Thank you, The Brookings Institution, for another thought-provoking inspiring discussion! Visit here to view the replay: https://lnkd.in/gzk2Df42
