𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐀 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 (𝐏𝐒𝐒)🚀 The backbone of every airline's operations lies in its Passenger Service System (PSS). Handling millions of bookings, changes, pricing, check-in, and more. Everything's powered by this sophisticated software. 🛫 (some might question the sophistication part) and the reality is not all PSS are created equal, and there's a lot of room for improvement and innovation! So, What exactly is a PSS and what does it do, you may ask 🤔 A PSS is like the brain of an airline's operations, managing everything from ticket reservations to departure processes. Historically, it had and has 3 major components: 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐀𝐑𝐒): Think of it as the heart of ticketing and bookings. 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐀𝐈𝐒): Your go-to for managing seats, fare classes, and availability. 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐃𝐂𝐒): Streamlines the check-in, boarding, and departure process. 𝐍𝐨𝐰, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐧𝐬 🔧 Altéa Suite by Amadeus, Sabresonic by Sabre Corporation, Travelport+ by Travelport, Leonardo by Sirena-Travel JSCS, QUICK Passenger Retailing System (PRS) by TravelSky Technology Limited, Horizon by SITA and Kiu System Solutions combined manages 99% of the FSC PSS market. (Let that sink in..,) But here’s where it gets interesting: Most of these were built on a 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 but have been steadily migrating their entire system to a 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 architecture. So, Where is it Heading? 🚀 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐒𝐒 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝, 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫, 𝐍𝐃𝐂-𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐈-𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧! #TravelTech #AviationInnovation #AirlineTechnology #PassengerServiceSystem #PSS #CloudComputing #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #NDC #NewDistributionCapability #TravelDistribution #AirlineIndustry #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfTravel #AviationExperts #TravelIndustry #TechDisruption #Innovation #isitrelevant

𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥: 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐃𝐂 Every business hinges on two key elements: 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 and 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲. Airlines are the same and they invest heavily in supply (aircraft, team, slots and so on) long before knowing if they can capture the customer demand. Historically, this wasn't a huge problem—connecting financial hubs and popular leisure destinations was straightforward, and the legacy UN/EDIFACT was built to meet those needs. But times have changed. Traveler preferences have evolved, and airlines have better ways to access demand, new channels for distribution and could be agile in their decision-making. GDS players did their part brilliantly, but now it's time for fresh innovation. That’s where 𝐍𝐃𝐂 comes in—enabling better tech solutions for airlines, sellers, and, ultimately, travelers. All right now the current reality is NDC isn't perfect. But if it were flawed beyond repair, why would major GDSs, airlines, and travel tech giants invest so much in it? 🤔 Think about it. It’s not that the entire industry is wrong; maybe the challenge is in adapting to the new reality. To those concerned about the costs or operational challenges of adopting NDC here are some of the solutions. Start with an 𝐍𝐃𝐂 aggregator like Mystifly, Travelfusion, Duffel, or anybody else. (or) You can also work with 𝐍𝐃𝐂 technology providers/ implementation partners like Accelya Group, Verteil Technologies, AirGateway, or anyone else to gradually build your tech stack reaping the benefits of their expertise and growing your business. (or) You can get consulting advice from experts like Ann Cederhall, Timothy O'Neil-Dunne, Sandeep Desai, Rajeshwari Karanth, or anyone else to kickstart your NDC dreams. After all, I was told that airlines once used punch cards for ticketing. If that could be pulled off, then I think we can handle this! #TravelTech #NDC #Aviation #FutureOfTravel #Innovation #GDS image courtesy: Adobe p.s. Couldn't include all NDC Enablers (100+) and individuals that I love and respect from the industry here but would love to re-direct you to people without any commercial interest ❌ 💰 Selfish interest in just wanting to see wider NDC adoption and industry progress 🚀

Adopting IATA's NDC standards is no walk in the park. Legacy tech in the travel booking space feels like running with weights on! 🏃♂ For Global Distribution Systems (GDS) to stay ahead, modernization isn't just an option; it's a necessity. We're talking multi-source content integration for seamless bookings and robust data warehouses for source-agnostic visualization and reporting. 🌐📊 Innovation isn't a luxury anymore—it's an urgent need to meet our industry's evolving demands. Let's embrace the future and ditch the outdated baggage! ✈🚀 #TravelTech #NDC #Innovation #TripStax
