Top 10 ways NOT to achieve lubrication excellence in your business 1. Don’t change anything. “We have done it this way for 20 years so it must work” 2. Oil is oil & Grease is Grease. “Use whatever is convenient and on offer this week” Don’t waste time worrying if it’s the correct product we’re using just pump it in and tick the box. 3. Buy your lubricants at the lowest cost possible. Pretend the “spreadsheet saving of 20%” is game changing for the business. Higher cost lubricants are all just a big marketing scam RIGHT?? 4. Give lubrication to the lowest paid member of staff . “It’s just chucking some grease in, How hard can it be?” 5. Avoid documenting any of your lubrication procedures. “If we don’t record it did it really happen” “Yes of course we have been greasing it weekly like the manual said”. 6. Don’t waste money on oil analysis. “It’s just a gimmick to sell you more oil” There is no way to tell on the health of your system by taking a sample (Said every doctor👨⚕️ 💉 🩸) 7. Microscopic particles can’t hurt, If you can’t see it how can it be bad?? “Its just a little bit of bacteria, it can’t hurt me” 8. Avoid the distraction of lubrication reporting. “Its just distracting us from the real work of fixing things” 9. Don’t waste your money on lubrication accessories & equipment. “I’ve got a spare funnel in my garage that will do the job” “Just grab some old cardboard and make a funnel, that will do” 10. Don’t waste money on education & training. “If we train them they might leave” “What if we don’t and they stay?” #lubrication #reliability #maintenance #oil #grease #industrialengineering #maintenancemanager #engineeringmanager

As a dedicated advocate of getting the basics right, I cannot disagree. Though it’s still amazing that folk think like this, but I have heard in reality and within recent times every example you provided and more. Foundations before buildings. Great post Martin.
