The CDN space seems to be entering so many of the conversations I’m having at the moment. I mean, most conversations With Comcast's latest move leveraging edge compute to enhance streaming experiences, we’re witnessing a shift in the CDN landscape. The integration of advanced edge technologies could signal a change in the way content is delivered and consumed. But what does this mean for the established players, and how does this compare to innovative offerings like Eluvio? On one hand, we have giants like Fastly and Akamai Technologies which have built their reputations on reliable, centralized content delivery networks. The recent news about Edgio also plays towards the consideration about this part of the streaming economy. Qwilt, for instance, has thrived by partnering with ISPs to create deep edge caches, focusing on the democratization of content distribution. Then, there's Eluvio which introduces a fundamentally different approach with blockchain-based content distribution—eliminating the need for intermediaries and providing unprecedented control and transparency. The future of streaming could be much less about infrastructure than it always has been under the hood of the solutions, and more about more contemporary ways to use tech for decentralization of ownership and delivery of content. When I got sent this article this evening i was left wondering about the CDN dimension of the market. Comcast’s adoption of edge compute and the rise of decentralized platforms like Eluvio; are we entering a new era where the old CDN models no longer suffice, or are at least under imminent threat? Is it about faster or more efficient delivery anymore or about reimagining the entire ecosystem. Where do you think the future lies? Can the established players adapt, or will innovators like lead the charge? In a chapter of the book of streaming like the one we are in, where broadcasters are understandably obsessed with the bottom line of their businesses, I suspect that the cost efficiency comparison will play a large part of how quickly the new architectures take hold.
