YouTube is Testing a New Sleep Timer Feature on Its Premium Tier 💤
YouTube continues to experiment with new features for its Premium subscribers, and the latest addition is a sleep timer—an option that pauses your video after a set period of time. While it might not be the most groundbreaking feature, it's incredibly handy for those who like to drift off to sleep with long podcasts or white noise playing in the background.
How It Works:
- Premium users can enable the sleep timer from the experimental features page on desktop or through the “Settings > Try experimental new features” option on mobile.
- The Sleep Timer will then appear in the Settings menu on the video player.
- You can set the timer to pause the video after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes—or until the video ends.
- Once the video pauses, a pop-up will ask if you’d like to extend the timer.
YouTube's previous experiments include an AI assistant that answers questions about videos and a lock screen feature to prevent accidental taps.
Although the sleep timer is currently being tested until September 2, there's hope that it will become a permanent feature, possibly extending to free users as well.
This feature might be a small addition, but it reflects YouTube's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience, particularly for those who make the most of their Premium membership.
