The future of Australia's critical minerals sector depends on transforming mineral potential into investable projects. However, the below analysis highlights that currently only about 20% of our projects are investable. To address this, we need to catalyse private capital and develop project clusters that can achieve economies of scale. Government intervention through strategic reserves and contractual support, and the adoption of blended finance models (or similar) are options to mitigate risks and attract investment. By fostering collaboration and innovation, we can unlock the full potential of our critical minerals sector. #Mining #CriticalMinerals #Australia #Sustainability

Australia's critical minerals sector holds immense potential, but we face challenges in transforming our natural endowment into investable projects. PwC's analysis reveals that, of 696 projects, only 121 are currently investable, and just 26 have proven and probable reserves. We must adopt innovative strategies to attract private capital and achieve economies of scale. By leveraging lessons from our success in bulk commodities and fostering stronger collaboration, we can accelerate the development of our critical minerals industry. #Mining #CriticalMinerals #Australia #Investment Read the full article find out more https://bit.ly/3UOglu7

With mounting global pressure for energy transition, 17 key minerals are at the heart of the cleantech revolution. Remarkably, around 72.7% of these strategic minerals ( Cobalt, Lithium,Cupper...) are found in Africa, underscoring the continent’s critical role in supplying the raw materials essential for this transition and the broader clean energy sector. Three key opportunities stand out: I. Monetising resources: Countries rich in minerals have the potential to capitalise on these assets by building sustainable mining infrastructures, attracting international investment, and promoting transparency to maximise returns. II. Investing in the value chain: Rather than simply exporting raw minerals, it would be far more beneficial for these nations to develop local refining and processing capabilities, adding significant value within their own borders. III. Strategic trade agreements: Governments must negotiate favourable deals to ensure the fair distribution of mining profits, ensuring local communities reap economic benefits. This also opens up substantial opportunities for subcontracting local mining expertise. The Australian Critical Minerals Conference brings together stakeholders involved in the critical minerals industry from the length of the value chain to discuss the most significant challenges facing Australia's critical minerals industry, including downstream supply chain integration, environmental regulations, and market volatility. It’s pivotal that the sector addresses these challenges as Australia aims to enhance its competitiveness in the global market, so join us and learn how to effectively address these challenges while exploring: 1. Supply Chain Integration: For Australia to maximise the value of its critical minerals, it needs to develop not just the mining but also the downstream processing and manufacturing capacities. Kirk McDonald, Project Manager—Supercharge Australia at New Energy Nexus, will explore how international investment in midstream and downstream enhances a mine’s resilience and competitiveness 2. Environmental and Regulatory Hurdles: The mining and processing of critical minerals can have significant environmental impacts. Australia has strict environmental regulations, and obtaining the necessary approvals can be lengthy and unpredictable. Moderated by Kim Wainwright, Chair at Queensland Exploration Council, our panel on the impact of ESG and Net Zero on the critical minerals industry is a must-attend session. It will bring a variety of perspectives from industry leaders such as Matt Fifield, Managing Director, Pacific Road Capital and Philippa Sjoquist, Director ESG - Energy, Infrastructure and Resources at Westpac 3. Market Volatility and Access: The price and demand for critical minerals can be highly volatile, influenced by technological changes, geopolitics, and global economic conditions. Securing stable and long-term markets is crucial for the viability of projects. Rebecca Tomkinson, Chief Executive Officer of the The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, joins us to deep-dive into an analysis of global supply and market demand levels and what it means for Australia View the full agenda and speaker list here https://lnkd.in/gbiGuNUZ Register NOW and gain insights on solving the top 3 challenges facing Australia’s critical minerals sector https://hubs.la/Q02v-2jR0
