🌍Together Against Violence At Hemaiah Centre for Human Rights, we are proud to stand in solidarity with the global 16-day UN campaign to combat violence against women. This initiative is a call to action for individuals, communities, and institutions to break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and champion the rights and safety of women everywhere. In the Middle East, this issue demands urgent attention and meaningful dialogue. Therefore, women at Hemaiah have shared their insights and suggestions for combating violence against women in our region. Click the link below to read more. To reduce violence against women in Arab society, it is essential to address the stigma surrounding speaking out and create stronger support systems for women leaving abusive situations. Public awareness campaigns, such as promoting dialogue through community leaders, can create a cultural shift, promoting respect for women’s rights, advocating zero tolerance for violence and recognising warning signs of abuse. Therefore, we invite you to join the dialogue; what are the key steps to creating a safer, more equitable society? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etKyJfSW

𝟐𝟓 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 By Carolina Atlee / GICJ The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is annually observed on 25 November. Although women’s rights activists have acknowledged the date since 1981 in memory of the Mirabal sisters, this Day has been officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly since 7 February, 2000. This International Day aims to raise awareness to both the frequency and severity of violence against women. According to United Nations statistics, almost a third of women experience violence in their lives. Of these, teenage girls are especially vulnerable, with a quarter of adolescent girls facing abuse from their partners. Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) welcomes UNiTE’s theme this year and awaits the UNODC’s report, which we urge all parties to read to raise awareness of the regular and severe violence that women face. On this International Day, GICJ remembers the experiences and courage of all women who have suffered abuse, in particular those who have tragically lost their lives as a result of this senseless violence. Furthermore, we highlight the importance of the upcoming 16 Days in advocating for stronger policies, as well as the acknowledgement of women’s realities all around the world.

We must move beyond awareness to action. Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we must recognize how conflicts in the Middle East deepen the suffering of women and girls. War amplifies gender-based violence, forcing women into unsafe environments with limited resources and protection. Yet, women are not just victims, they are resilient agents of change. Across the region, they are mobilizing to advocate for peace, justice, and equality despite immense challenges. We have to call for holding perpetrators accountable, supporting women, led initiatives, and ensuring humanitarian and development efforts address their needs through an intersectional feminist lens. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #NoExcuse #16Days. #WomenInConflict #HumanRights #MiddleEast

Join Aide à l'Enfance de l'Inde et du Népal (AEIN) for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence! From November 25 to December 10, we unite with the global community to end violence against women and girls. This year’s theme, “Towards 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNITE to End Violence Against Women and Girls,” calls for action, accountability, and increased support to eradicate this pervasive human rights violation. 🔸 Did you know? Nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. Femicide, the most extreme manifestation of gender-based violence, is on the rise, with over 89,000 women and girls intentionally killed in 2022 alone. Women are disproportionately impacted by intersecting crises such as climate change, economic instability, and conflict. At AEIN, we stand for engagement, justice, solidarity, and respect—and this campaign reflects our commitment to a world where women and girls live free from violence. 💡 How can you participate? 👉 Be an Ally: Join local activities and stand with survivors. 👉 Speak Out: Challenge harmful norms and educate others. 👉 Take Action: Advocate for stronger laws and better enforcement to end violence against women. 👉 “Orange the World”: Use orange to symbolize a brighter future without violence. Together, let’s amplify the call to hold perpetrators accountable, increase resources for women’s rights organizations, and transform harmful societal norms. Share your voice! Tell us in the comments: How will you take action during the 16 Days of Activism? #16DaysOfActivism #EndVAWG #JusticeForWomen #UNiTE #BeijingPlus30

Today, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day marks the tragic anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, where 14 women lost their lives to gender-based violence. As we remember these women and countless others affected by violence, we are reminded of the importance of advocating for change, supporting survivors, and promoting equality. Let us honour their memory by committing to action and working together to create a world free from violence and discrimination against women. Together, we must: -Raise awareness about the impact of gender-based violence -Support survivors with compassion and resources -Advocate for change in policies and attitudes -Educate our communities to prevent future violence -Stand in solidarity with those affected by violence
