@AG Letitia James, thank you for your support for gender pay equity and the NYS Equal Rights Amendment. In New York, full-time Black women workers earn only 66¢ to every $1 a white, non-Hispanic male worker earns. We MUST improve our pay transparency laws to close this unjust wage gap! Job postings with overly broad salary ranges undermine the positive impact our NY pay equity laws have on the most marginalized workers. For #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, we must close loopholes in the law and demand more transparency! #EqualPayNY

This is a really insightful article regarding the introduction of the Equal Pay Act 1970 and how these brave women went on strike for what they believed in. It’s sad that over 50 years later this can still be an issue #equalpay #history #employmentlaw

Today, July 9, marks #EqualPayDay for Black women: 💵"On this day, we will highlight the fact that the wage gap for Black women compared to non-Hispanic white men is 69 cents for full time, year-round workers. The wage gap widens to 66 cents when looking at all Black women earners." -Equal Pay Today, A Project of Equal Rights Advocates 🚧One of the barriers to equal pay is a lack of protection against workplace harassment and discrimination. Learn more about Vermont’s Fair Employment Practices Act (FEPA) which makes it an “unlawful employment practice” for an employer to discriminate against a person based on protected categories: https://lnkd.in/g92Pwk2 📜There's much to be done in our state and nationally. You can take action today by urging members of Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and co-sponsor the Bringing an End to Harassment by Enhancing Accountability and Rejecting Discrimination (BE HEARD) in the Workplace Act: https://lnkd.in/d6XWpN2 For the full policy agenda, click here: https://lnkd.in/emyWpZqA #OTD #equalpay #wagegap

Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day On this day, the Equal Pay Today campaign will highlight the fact that the wage gap for Black women compared to non-Hispanic white men is 69 cents for full time, year-round workers. The wage gap widens to 66 cents when looking at all Black women earners (including full-time, part-time and part-year workers), as compared to all working non-Hispanic white men. These wage gaps are unacceptable. Black women continue to be underpaid, undervalued, and overrepresented in jobs that lack important workplace protections. Join advocates across the country in this social media storm to urge support for the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Be HEARD Act to help secure equal pay and stronger workplace harassment protections. Today is Equal Pay Day! 🎉 Today we recognize the progress (and lack of) made towards fair wages for all. Recognize that women are still grossly underpaid compared to men, and Black and Brown women even more so. Let's continue to fight for equality in the workplace and empower each other to ask for what we deserve. Cheers to breaking glass ceilings and closing the wage gap together! 💪🏼💸 #EqualPayDay

Some very interesting news on gender pay equality emerged in todays news, regarding Birmingham City Council. But why also surprising (to me at least)? I'm sure many, like me, would have been unaware of the degrees of inequality, through nuances such as Christmas bonuses, or "job done so leave for the day", as well as the main issue of equal pay for equal work. It's clear that despite significant progress in gender equality discussions, disparities in pay still persist for various reasons including: historical biases, lack of transparency in pay structures, and differences in negotiation practices between genders. For me at least, it's good to witness a prominent institution like Birmingham City Council recognising such disparities, which may hopefully signal a shift towards greater accountability - and commitment - to equitable treatment in all employment practices. Being honest though, another surprise for me stemmed from the expectation that such issues within County Council / Public Sector were largely resolved: but was this for more exec roles, rather than what our society considers lower skilled? It simply exemplifies that transparency and proactive measures are needed at all levels of the work force and pay, in addressing gender pay equity. Whilst this win for equality took place in the public sector, with the fight for best talent continuing within the private sector continuing unabated, it seems to be a timely reminder for all organisations to consider pay structures and bandings that treat all workers the same - regardless of gender, creed or colour. Do let me know your thoughts on this!

Latinas lead in every industry, but for the first time in 20 years, the wage gap has widened for Latina workers. On average, Latina workers stand to lose more than $1.2M over a 40-year career due to the wage gap. Today on #LatinaEqualPay Day, we celebrate the recent signing of MA's historic wage transparency bill, which is a positive step in advancing gender & racial equity. https://lnkd.in/e4XBxeTy
