Studies show that detection of traumatic stress may be more difficult in young children. Just because a child may seem to be resilient to trauma does not mean they are immune. Foster care requires taking on a trauma-informed lens and compassionate understanding of the child’s experiences. It's important to recognize that all children, regardless of age, need support and understanding to heal from their past. Let's debunk this myth and work towards providing nurturing care for all children, teens, and young adults in foster care. #FosterCareAwareness #fostercare #familyforeveryone

What are the most pressing policy and practice changes needed to better equip foster youth aging out of the system and into independent living? Chapin Hall foster care researcher Amy Dworsky highlights the lack of affordable housing and how it can significantly hinder foster youths’ ability to achieve key milestones such as pursuing education, securing and maintaining employment, and gaining financial independence. When housing costs are prohibitive, it creates a cascade of challenges, including financial instability and difficulty accessing essential services. Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach, including increasing affordable housing availability and vouchers, providing financial assistance, and creating programs that help young people develop the skills and resources they need to navigate adulthood successfully. New study highlights the importance of supporting kinship caregivers! A recent report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation underscores the vital role that kinship caregivers — relatives or close family friends — play in the lives of children in foster care. The study reveals how states are stepping up efforts to find and support these caregivers, ensuring that children stay connected to their families and communities. Key findings show increased use of family team meetings and expanded search methods to locate potential kin caregivers. At CMFCAA, we’re committed to strengthening our kinship care services and ensuring that every caregiver has the resources and support they need. Let’s continue to work together to provide love, stability, and a brighter future for our children. Learn more about the study here:/https://lnkd.in/gmbf9UUd #KinshipCare #CMFCAACares
