Scientists agree that we cannot tackle the climate crisis without the Midwest, and the Midwest is ready to lead. With the next administration, we hope Washington will join. As we head into the election, all eyes are on the Midwest: the key swing states of Wisconsin and Michigan and two vice presidential candidates both from the Midwest. We’re proud to partner with Minnesota-based McKnight Foundation in uplifting climate solutions born in the Midwest that are ripe for more investment. In this op-ed, Tonya Allen, president of McKnight, and Greg Ballard, Republican and former Indianapolis mayor, share four lessons learned of how to win in the Midwest through climate solutions that offer benefits for a revitalized economy, good-paying jobs and healthier communities. https://lnkd.in/gQJ_YEQK

Islands are the most affected by the destructive impact of the climate crisis. They also pay the highest price for fossil-fuel-based electricity. Transitioning to 100% renewable energy can address both of these critical issues. In May, BSL was in Hawaii to help produce the second cohort of Blue Planet Alliance (BPA)'s Fellowship Program, bringing representatives of 10 islands to Hawaii to learn how the Aloha State made it state law to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045. In October, we'll be bringing another 10 islands to Hawaii — for a total of 28 that have come through the program, including islands from the Caribbean and Pacific and Indian oceans. Read the Final Report from the second cohort here to see how the nonprofit BPA is offering a solution to the climate crisis. https://lnkd.in/e6kqykzE

Climate Tech today mirrors the position of the Life Science sector a decade ago or the tech industry two decades ago. The profound influence of those innovations continues to reshape our cities and lives. Today, the nascent energy and climate tech innovations emerging in states like Massachusetts, Texas, Georgia, and beyond will play a pivotal role in influencing the future of design and urban planning. Kudos to my co-chairs Levi Reilly & Jennifer Schultz for assembling a timely conversation. #multifamilyrealestate #multifamily
Nationwide Leader of Real Estate Development team - Specializing in Large-Scale Complex Development in Greater Boston, MA & RI, focusing on ClimaTech, Energy, Life Sciences, Industrial & Housing.
I was lucky, along with my ULI Boston Market Product Council co-chairs Levi Reilly & Clara Wineberg, AIA , to host an engaging and important panel of speakers at our March meeting on the topic of ClimaTech in Massachusetts and pathwayS to the energy transition. Thank you so much to Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao, President of National Grid NE Lisa Wieland, General Partner of Engine Ventures Michael Kearney, and President of the Northeast Clean Energy Council Joe Curtatone for your time and insight. And a special shout out to Undersecretary Ashley Stolba for fielding all the surprise questions! As the Secretary impressed upon all of us…Massachusetts is not guaranteed to be the Nation’s leader in ClimaTech, and frankly, it would be a come from behind victory at this moment in time, but we can, and we should give it our all, because we MUST.

There are only 11 Mondays left in 2024... So take a minute to realize some actual progress that’s happening: 🌊 It’s Indigenous People’s Day in the US and the new Chumash Sanctuary is now official, covering 4,543 square miles of waters which will be co-managed by Indigenous communities to use their knowledge in properly protecting the area’s diverse marine life 🌊 🌞 Closed landfills are finding a second life by using all that empty, open space and transforming into solar farms, turning the low-quality land into a good source of clean energy and income, with massive potential across the thousands of decommissioned landfills across the US 🌞 📉 A new independent report found that global carbon emissions will peak in 2024 thanks to the adoption of renewables and electrification, and while it’s still much slower than we need, this is a solid sign that all of our efforts to protect the earth are working, and we can’t slow down 📉 🧑🚒 And today’s community win comes from Plane who started Fire Academy to become a Firefighter and save lives 🧑🚒 How are you making the planet better? 📧 Join thousands in getting source links, bonus stories & more delivered every Friday: https://lnkd.in/eZtbydkX
