📣 What can policy makers thinking about the digital transformation of work learn from trials of the four-day week? In our new Digit Policy Brief by Brendan Burchell (University of Cambridge), David Spencer (University of Leeds), Simon Deakin (University of Cambridge), and Jill Rubery (The University of Manchester) argue that working time reduction is a viable and realistic objective to share the benefits of technological advances. Their recommendations include: 🏥 Supporting more public sector trials 🏢 Supporting more private sector trials 🗣️ Supporting provision of advice about how to make a four-day week work with no loss of paid work 👨💼 Considering how workers with less bargaining power can benefit from reduced working time They also call on trade unions to consider how they could help a wider group of workers to benefit from a four-day week through advice, negotiations, and campaigns 🤝 You can read the Policy Brief in full on our website: https://lnkd.in/euCsTNcN ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council | University of Sussex Business School | Leeds University Business School #WorkingTimeReduction #FutureOfWork #4DayWeek #DigitalTransformation #EmployeeWellbeing #Productivity #WorkLifeBalance #InclusiveWorkplace #SustainableWork #GenderEquality #FutureOfWork #TalentRetention #JobSatisfaction

Is the US ready for a 32-Hour workweek? Not since 1940 has this been considered at the Federal level, but now the Senate is weighing its viability. It’s probably a long way from becoming the norm, let alone a regulated one, but how do you think it would work in your organization? What challenges and changes would it create? ? #SHRM #32HourWorkweek #ShorterWorkWeek

There are definitely pros and cons to this. It allows for work/life balance, maybe higher productivity and reduced stress/burnout for sure. However, theres a decrease in income (with inflation 😮 ), scheduling challenges as well as a huge impact on businesses financially. Not sure if we are ready for this, unless they lower groceries, rent/mortgages, etc.....Not sure if the benefit outweighs the cost.
Is America ready to embrace a 32-hour workweek? Recent Senate hearings suggest a shift in the traditional work paradigm. Trials by the team at 4 Day Week Global highlight the feasibility and success of this model across sectors like tech, construction, and law enforcement. The question now is whether this could become the norm for a wider range of industries, sparking conversations about work culture, productivity, and balance. #4DayWeek #workforce
