Over 300 FlexCo's and counting! We are celebrating Austria's new legal form for innovative companies. 🎊 Since the beginning of the year it's been possible to use the new legal entity and now we count more than 300 FlexCo's. 🙌 We, the Startup Council, met with Minister Martin Kocher yesterday to celebrate this milestone and to discuss how to improve it even further. Why is this so groundbreaking? 🤔 👉 Startups have unique needs, especially when it comes to legal structures. The traditional GmbH just didn't fit anymore. 👉 Introducing FlexCo - a hybrid legal entity that combines the best of both worlds. It makes it easier to give shares to employees and attract investment. We don't stop here. We have high ambitions to further improve the FlexCo: 👉 We're pushing to raise the current limits of the current 100 employees and a maximum 10-year company age to make it even more attractive for scale-ups and SMEs. 👉 In addition, an optimization of FlexCo is already taking place and the issue of the transfer of phantom shares to the new employee share model is currently being dealt with by the parliament. I posted on this very topic last night. I would agree with Joe's statement that "Maximum optimism (is) requirement number one for a tech startup team," though I'm not sure the norm is quite as severe as "a roller-coaster of emotions, an avalanche of work, a cascade of bad breaks. It’s shitstorm after shitstorm. You wake up every morning in a burning building ..." Sometimes it's harder than others. Either way it's definitely not healthy or sustainable in the long-term, unless you take steps to manage these factors and predict when problems are going to arise.
