Today's #FacultyFriday highlights computational and data sciences associate professor, Anamaria Berea, who was recently featured on George Mason University's Access to Excellence podcast. In this episode, Berea discusses her research on Mars settlements and Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP) as she and President Gregory Washington debate the question on everyone’s mind: is there life beyond Earth? Her work combines data analysis and the study of complex systems to explore the search for extraterrestrial life and understand the challenges of finding life in outer space. By analyzing biosignatures, Berea works on identifying potential signs of life on exoplanets, contributing to the broader scientific efforts to explore the unknowns of the universe. Do you know what I love? Nice round numbers. Who doesn't like a nice round number? Amazingly, this is Kovi's and my 20th episode! Two whole seasons of The Nerd and the Scientist podcast in the books. Really amazing how in just this last season we've had our first guests on the show, reached every continent except Antarctica (seriously, if anyone knows someone at - or going to - Antarctica please let me know), and we crossed the 1,000 listeners mark (1,200 now as I write this). That's not all - season three's already in the works! We've already got a few episodes in the can, lining up new guests, nearly done putting the video of all our past episodes onto TikTok and will soon put them up on YouTube, and we even completed our first (hopefully first of many) guerrilla style episode! Holy moly that guerrilla episode. I wish I could say more, but you'll just have to keep on listening. Voluminous is a fancy vocabulary word I will use right now for no reason to describe our body of work so far. And all this comes from Kovi and I just wanting to talk about space and learn and do research for each episode - which basically means that, FOR FUN, we love giving ourselves homework. Do you even realize how ridiculous that sounds? Homework as a hobby? But it's paid off. We're having fun, we're making friends in the science and science communication worlds. We're getting creative in how we promote our work, create all kinds of schwag from our show (https://lnkd.in/gBQrhiMc), learning about editing and really upping our social media knowhow. Exciting things are yet to come, and we're so thankful for all of you that have been following us all along. We're going to keep on trying to make it lighthearted and informative, and throw a few surprises in along the way. We'll start with that sneaky, guerrilla episode that nobody saw coming. That we recorded in a hurry, in public, in a secret location that we can't say anything more about. Really, though, this sneaky, hush-hush episode's pretty awesome. #science #scicomm #podcast #nerd #scientist #space #astrophysics #astronomy #guerrilla #rubberduck #ridetheduck #moretocome #didimentionthespecialepisode #pewpew #radio #talkshow #whatsmyhashtaglimit #amazonshere #gottago #thankyouforlistening
X Marks The Space Inventions From Space Travel Part B (but still a Part-A!) There are so many things in our day-to-day lives that we take for granted that got their start as part of humanity's greatest endeavor - exploring the universe. Before memory foam mattresses carried you off to sleep, they were the lining of pilot seats for NASA's jet planes and even the space shuttle, the best Speedo bathing suit got its start in a wind tunnel, and the jaws of life that firefighters might use to open wrecked car doors first were used separating spacecraft. Join Kovi Rose and Benjamin Salles as they talk about how space inventions help us down here on Earth. Season 2 Episode 10 of The Nerd & The Scientist is now available wherever you get your podcasts. https://lnkd.in/gc5G72_P #science #podcast #scicomm #space #inventions #memoryfoam #speedo #jawsoflife

Today's episode of Sparks by Ignium captures the conversation I had the pleasure of hosting with Laura Gallaher, PhD. We talk about "The Missing Links: Launching a High Performing Company Culture" the book she co-authored with Phillip Meade, Ph.D. and how their work at NASA, following the Columbia Shuttle Disaster in 2003, identified some of the key cultural issues that underpinned the incident. Listen in on all podcast channels to hear how Laura talks about the behaviours they uncovered and what needed to be done before the next Shuttle could ever be launched. #nasa #storytelling #culture #transformation #organisationalculture #purpose Ramona Kokenberger Verne Harnish Kerry Jarred Rose Tapper Stuart Rose Thank you to Sassy Clyde at Janno Media for pulling this together as always!

Robert Zubrin It would be so much easier to go to Titan with or without StarShip. You don't need pressure suits and Titan has less gravity so you can take off from it more easily and it has all the methane and oxygen you need(although the oxygen will be harder to come by unless you drill into the ice to extract water for electrolysis. Speaking of which if there is abundant water there then you have drinking water and can grow plants in hydropnics with the fertilizer ethane/methane. seas You have a source of raw material for manufacturing all the plastic you need for 3D printing. If done right StarShip might even be able to float on the atmosphere of Titan so it doesn't even need to land. There's less gravity on Titan and more air pressure. Mars is attractive because of it's distance but it has little to no atmosphere and the only raw material there it has is CO2 and water trapped as ice. No building material, and no methane which is rocket fuel for StarShip. But send those new Tesla/Boston Dynamics robots first to test and build stuff while connected via wireless to main onboard AI computer then you have a robotic crew integrated into Starship's main computer. They dont need food/clothes/air and can space walk to fix problems.
“We don’t go to Mars to desert the Earth. We go to Mars to expand the capacity of the human race, to create new branches of human civilization.” - Dr. Robert Zubrin In this insightful Space Café Podcast episode, Dr. Robert Zubrin dives into the real challenges of building permanent settlements on Mars—beyond just reaching the planet. He discusses key factors like energy, food, and governance that will shape humanity’s future on the Red Planet. Zubrin’s bold vision challenges what we thought we knew about the possibilities of space colonization. 🎧Listen here: https://lnkd.in/e2ZTrt6k #SpaceCafePodcast #MarsExploration #Starship #MarsColony #HumansToMars #MarsExplorationMissions #MarsColonization #LifeOnMars #SpaceX #NASA #MarsSociety The Mars Society Markus Mooslechner Torsten Kriening Emma Gatti
